Roasted Cherry Bourbon Milkshakes with Hot Fudge.
Let’s make this our red, white and blue.
I vote yes. Hand raised.
So can we talk favorite milkshakes? Mine = hot fudge. Always has been. Always will be.
However, I also sort of like to eat my dessert instead of drink it. But there is always a time and a place for shake. Right?
Oh hi. I’m just one big walking contradiction today.
You may remember me discussing my love for hot fudge milkshakes a few years ago. See, for thirty years my family has gone to the beach and rode bikes on the boardwalk every morning, then capped it off with a dairy queen trip. At like 11am. And a staple was always a hot fudge milkshake. If you haven’t had it, you must must must try. It is not just a chocolate milkshake.
It is le.git.
Worst thing ever: there is a DQ less than 60 seconds from my house.
Best thing ever too.
AND… then last year, I made some chocolate cherry bourbon soda floats so it’s safe to say I cannot get enough of chocolate, cherry, bourbon and milkshakes. All in one.
Lately, my favorite fruit to roast has been cherries in the midst of my fruit roasting obsession. A few weeks ago I attempted to make some roasted cherry chocolate chip cookies and oh my gosh, what a freaking disaster. They will be #1 on my recipe disasters of 2013, sure of it. Not only were they probably the ugliest recipe I’ve ever made, but they also tasted horrendous. Â
I was adamant on continuing to roast those dumb cherries though. I adore cherries, even in all of their sneaky glory. You know? You see a big, beautiful display at the grocery store piled high with bags of vibrant cherries… and on top screams a large sign “$4.99!!!!”
Done. Bag in cart. Wheels are turning. Cherry everything is in my future.
Go to check out. Put cherries on the scale check-out thing. Cherries are $17. FACEPLANT.
Why must the whole “a pound” part of the sign have to be in fine print and why oh why do I never learn my lesson? Every summer. It happens. It’s like I just think that my grocery store has magically started selling giant bags of cherries for less than $5 when for 15 years they’ve cost an arm and a leg.
In addition, I also have many run-ins with cherry pits and my garbage disposal. Every year. Fail.
Pretty sure I also write about these same two things every single summer. I need a life.
Oh well! Milkshakes for everyone.

I feel you on the sneaky pricing of cherries. I am always sucked in by the glorious looking cherries and the price per pound….only to have a faceplant/jawdrop moment at the register when I realize I just purchased $15 of cherries. They’d better be damn good (they usually are) and I’d better not waste a single one! Some of my latest haul with definitely find their way into this delicious milkshake!

Must try these! That is my DQ treat too. Most of the time I make mine a malt. Try that, I think you will like it. And thanks for the tip on the cherries. I’ve never noticed or looked. Just thought it was $4.99. Thanks!
