Tuesday Things.
1. I have been on a major pizza kick. The above has proscuitto and arugula but on Saturday night I had one with brussels, pancetta and… wait for it… BURRATA. Can’t even.
2. Hello amazing: how to spin sugar. Seriously blown away. Her pictures!!
3. If you live in the Pittsburgh area, I’m teaching some cooking classes for Crate in March (the 20th) and June (the 14th). And when I say cooking classes, I mean we are making a plethora of crazy grilled cheese sandwiches and over-the-top burgers. Of course.
4. I got my first massage ever (like ever, ever) last Friday – and I mean massage by an actual massage person and not me having to nag my husband to please rub my shoulders – and I was slightly underwhelmed? I think I need someone to beat the crap out of muscles.
5. ‘Tis the season for needing to wear gigantic puffy coats outside and then having to blast the AC once you’re in the car because you’re dying of heat exhaustion. This happens to me every year. Freezing outside, stifling inside.
6. On that same note, even though it’s winter and freezing, I always want an iced drink. Always and forever.
7. If you are flipping over the Olympics like I am, you need to watch this mashup that Buzzfeed did of ice dancing to Beyonce’s drunk in love. Why aren’t people skating to Beyonce?
8. Um. I briefly mentioned this but I’ve actually been listening to the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack. Like I just have Happy on repeat all day. As if my music choices could get any more humiliating.
9. Why must I always get behind the person in line at the self-checkout who has thirty five thousand coupons? One of my weaknesses is the ability to choose grocery store lines.
10. Let’s talk TV!! Um okay. Girls: major second hand embarrassment. Even more embarrassment that I kind of got how Hannah was feeling (not wanting to be stuck in a job and become and office drone) but I’m like YOU NEED MONEY. Oh and can we just agree that Shoshanna had the line of the decade? I THINK IT’S TIME I UNCHOOSE THAT CHOICE. Story of my life. I thought the Walking Dead moved painfully slow but I got it. I did. I still am constantly on edge watching the show and do better when I learn spoilers ahead of time because then I don’t have an almost heart attack. Annnnnd I just remembered that House of Cards comes out this week, right? You can find us on the couch all weekend.
11. 17 signs you’re the old soul in your friends group. This is my life.

Congrats on your classes! That’s so cool! Hope to see some pictures from the events!
It’s almost lunch time and I suddenly NEED that pizza. And burrata.
need to get set up for those classes!!!! i might be fan girling a bit… 3 years following this blog and getting the chance to have 3 hrs of cheesy goodness with you leading the way i’m in (hopefully that doesn’t sound creepy – it might come across a bit creepy lol)…
for an amazing massage try out loughner massage and yoga in monroeville… they have groupons a lot and you have to go to Amy… she’s tiny but let me tell you she has taught my muscles who’s boss more than once…
did you see the 20 some signs that your an old lady? I was pretty much every one of them :)
I might have to come to your Crate class – how do I do that without feeling like a stalker?!
And to #4, I know a local masseuse who does such deep massages that they bring me to tears – but its totally worth it. E-mail me if you want his info! :)
Hey Claire! I was thinking the same thing re: the classes. Lets both go and be stalkers. :)
I can’t get enough of the Walking Dead. Sunday’s episode was slower than usual, but it was quite profound. I’ll be going through TWD withdrawl symptoms until Sunday.
Despicable Me 2- great movie. Favorite Gru line? I just made a boom-boom.
ugh! the walking dead! SO PAINFULLY SLOW. I will embarrassingly admit that I watch pretty little liars and feel the same way about that show. barely anything happens in one episode. frustrating. Im loving homeland and Nashville tho. I cant believe how much I love avery, after I hated him SO MUCH.
Closet PLL watcher too! I just can’t even with that darn show anymore. Besides Ezra and Aria’s relationship being completely illegal and disgusting, they have zero chemistry. For a while I thought all the Liars were onto Ezra and Aria was dating him as a sort of information-gathering sacrificial lamb, but then I realized that was not the case and they are in fact back together. Ugh.
I am known to get up from the massage table and end it if it is underwhelming – I have no time for a relaxation massage. Ask for deep tissue, call it body work rather than massage, ask about the different types / styles the therapist uses.
okay, sorry – the SPA in spabettie came out – I just get sad at hearing anyone not having a good experience, because it can be SO incredibly beneficial! :)
I’m signed up for Grilled Cheese…not just because I love your blog. Cheese is definitely my favorite food group. Check out Judit on the Southside. The best massage I’ve ever had!
I’m so excited to spend Valentine’s Day with Kevin Spacey!! Good thing my husband likes him too :)
Ha! My husband prides himself on the ability to pick the fastest moving line in the grocery store. He then congratulates the person working the register on their “skills”. I, though typically sporting the patience of a toddler, don’t mind the lines much! Great opportunity for magazine reading :)
1. burata on cheese is amaze.
2. girls is so good this season.
3. definitely try a massage again, when it’s good it’s ridic.

Wish I was there for the classes! PS – My kid has Despicable Me 2 on all. day . long. So I’m right there with ya jamming on Pharrell.
EEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkk I’m so excited for your cooking classes! I make so many recipes from your blog (like at least 2 weekly) and they all are amazing.
yum. cheese.
I remember my first massage I was like “umm….not worth it” and then I told the lady that I think I needed a little more pressure, and she was like, “Beyotch, we going trigger point” and I literally cried it hurt so bad. and it didn’t feel better later in the day. So I found a new lady, and she gives me “medium” massages. just gotta find one that fits right.
and grocery store lines? I saw one that was shorter than the others and jumped on it…but of course the lady i was behind was doing something complicated that involved her to need to do some paperwork and two transactions and it was like the first time the checker had to do that process, so she moved extra slowly to make sure she got everything right and I’m like…da hell?
I’m totally an old soul too. And Girls — I JUST watched it for the first time a couple weeks ago. Holy moly.
I agree! Shoshanna is seriously the best character on that show and that line was truly my all-time favorite Shoshanna quote.
I think the saddest part about Hannah’s writing dilemma (for me, at least) is the fact that for the past few weeks I’ve been feeling exactly the same way she felt — except instead of advertising copy, I’m stuck doing technical writing….
Congrats on the cooking classes, by the way! That is beyond badass.
That pizza looks amazing!
I look forward to reading about your teaching experience!

You would love this pizza at a restaurant my friend works at. It’s a white pizza with mozzarella, gruyere, pecorino, chili flakes, black pepper, and a sunny side up egg. So awesome.
Oh, and tons of proscuitto.
Re #8: I think by humiliating, you actually mean awesome? Based on your suggestion yesterday to listen to Taylor Dayne Pandora, I have been doing just that for basically every hour that I’ve been awake and it is AMAZING. I am kind of mad that I didn’t think of it myself. I was dancing like a lunatic to “We Don’t Have to Take Our Clothes Off” when my husband got home and he was like, WHAT are you doing?! So, thanks for the suggestion :)
girls was so good! and YES house of cards! i cannot waaait :) and now i want pizza. yum!
xo, cheyenne
I have to agree with the others who suggested you get a deep tissue massage if you didn’t this time. Deep tissue is where it’s at. You walk out feeling like you were worked over by a pack of pumas, but it does the trick. It’s not entirely pleasant while its happening, but it’s so worth it after. A couple of years ago for our anniversary I booked a couple’s massage for us. It was my husband’ s first massage and I forgot to tell him ahead of time that it was going to be deep tissue. Whoops! We (okay, I) had a good laugh about it afterwards.
Forget deep tissue and get a thai massage (or thai/sweedish combo). They definitely beat the crap out of you, twist you, pull you, and stretch you until you think you’re gonna die. But when it’s over, you’ll feel more blissed out than ever before. It’s life changing.
Old Soul – describes me to a T and I love it!
Your pancetta and burrata pizza looks exactly like one they serve at Pizzeria Mozza in CA. So, so good!
So glad that Walking Dead is back! I’m excited to see if the next episodes pick up a bit!
By the time i get to the end of Tuesday Things, I never know which one I want to comment on since they all seem to be right out of my own head. So, basically – we’ve been on a pizza kick too and it’s not helping that Trader Joe’s has the BEST dough for only $1, feel the same way about massages and have never had another since my 1st at 30, found myself fast forwarding through Walking Dead this week, and I wish I lived close enough to take a grilled cheese class!!
(eek, sorry about all that.)
YES to all things in #11!!!
I need to catch up on Girls like WHOA! Also, please keep pizza making – you have the craziest/best/most wonderful ideas for dough evaaaaa!
So um what!? That Beyonce thing is just can’t even amazing! and I can’t even watch the full video over here is aux land.. broken completely broken hearted.
BTW it is Wednesday here and it gets me every week that Im reading Tuesday Things on a Wednesday.. I don’t know if Ill ever snap out of it.
I’m totally with you on the grocery store checkout line – I’m horrible at it! And every time I think I’m in the wrong line and switch, it turns out I was in the right lane, which moves much faster than my new lane and now I’m stuck behind the old lady counting pennies and having them double-check the price on her bananas. Acckk. I hate grocery shopping.
However, I love cooking. And eating. So it’s a very necessary evil.
i could not agree with you more about the walking dead. heart attack every episode. and i wish i lived closer to pittsburgh!! i would kill to learn how to cook from you!
Teaching a cooking class sounds amazing! Also, I cannot get enough of the Happy song, I seriously bust out in uncontrollable dancing!
You have impeccable taste if you’re listening to Happy over and over! That song is peppy perfection!!!
Come teach cooking classes in CA! Pretty please? I’ll bring all the wine. Actually, how ’bout cocktail making classes???
I’m with you on being old. And massages are weird- I want more than a pat on the back, but don’t, you know, curb stomp me. It’s tricky.
I LOVE THE HAPPY SONG.
I’ve also been binge-listening to “Happy” — Connor despises it and I can’t help but like it (it does sort of make me happy, what can i say?). Granted, I binge-listen to everything and then at some point, I can never hear it ever again.
Now I like “My Hitta”, which makes me feel like a douche, but I like it all the same.
I live near pittsburgh and I’m totally coming to your class :)
4–you have to tell them you like DEEP tissue and dont be afraid to tell them not to hold back!! If you feel like your muscles need a beating, say just that and usually they’ll go to town :). NOTHING is worse than a too soft massage that just feels like a tease. Ugh. Nothing.
And now all I want is a brussels+prosciutto+burrata pizza followed by a deep tissue. THANKS Jess, you’re quite the influence lol
First ever??!! massage on Friday??! how is that even possible??!! Ok I am so shocked because I am a massage junkie :) I’d rather spend my disposable income on massages than ANYTHING else. I would pick a massage over restaurants, travel, etc. Seriously, I love them and yes if you were underwhelmed you have to find a new person! It’s like hair stylists. It can take awhile but once you find a keeper it’s so worth it. And yes you need to tell them to whale on your muscles. It’s the only thing that works for me with all the typing, computer work, camera, cooking, stirring, standing all day, back is trashed! Okay sorry for going on and on but I am all about a GOOD massage!
I was very unimpressed with the first massage or two that I got as well. But now I have no problem telling them I need more pressure and that I want major focus on my back. Always my back! Now I’m a big fan. I like to bust out instruction for them.
Too funny that you always go for iced. Even in the middle of summer in Florida I want my coffee hot! Haha.
Very slow and painful Walking Dead episode! That’s what the writers have for us to kick things off again? Didn’t love it but excited anyway for more!!
Ha- even in extreme heat, I want a hot drink, always and forever!
Totally on board with Happy! One of my acting teachers plays it during our movement exercises all the time. It’s a lot easier to do barre-style workouts with Pharrell in the background.
Also, 100% agree with #17 of the Buzzfeed article. Did you take the quiz that told you your true age? I got 35…and I was very happy with that.
Registered for the burger class.. Oh yes! Soo excited! Thanks for letting us know!
Pingback: Real Life Wednesday: I’m So Over You, Winter. | How Sweet It Is
I thought I was the only one that read the spoilers to see what’s happening. We binge watch a coulpe episodes at a time and I always read EW TV recaps before we watch. P.S. I finally caved and started watching SOA after resisting for a long time….I watched the entire first season in a weekend and my dreams are now filled with them boys.
Your Tuesday Things cracks me up every week. It’s truly the highlight of my Wednesday morning! More times then not I think I’m reading my own list!
Hi! Three things: I’d recommend heading out to Trillium Spa at Seven Springs and getting a Deep Tissue Massage there. My husband had one done there after skiing and he was sore the next day. I’m not a massage person myself because I’m usually underwhelmed and I can’t seem to relax much (aside for the occasional hot stone) – I always go for body wraps instead.
Second: Is that pizza up there from a restaurant in Pittsburgh? If so, do you mind sharing which because It. Looks. Amazing.
Third: I may have to come to one, or both, of those classes.
yes! from il pizzaiolo!
http://ilpizzaiolo.com/
So cool about the classes!! Congrats! :)
I’m totally hooked on “Happy” and didn’t realize I’d heard it at the end of Despicable Me until I Googled it….I KNEW I’d heard it somewhere before! I’m one of those who stays in the theater even past the lights coming up to read the credits and fell in love with the song that was playing….little did I know it was Pharrell “Big Hat” Williams!!
HA! Have you seen Pharrell’s video 24 HOURS of Happy? Just when you thought you couldn’t get any happier! ;) http://24hoursofhappy.com/ Check it out!
…and my computer is a stinker, didn’t realize this was posting twice….
um, this is the most amazing thing ever. i’m on round 7 of the song.
HA! I am stuck on Happy too! Have you seen Pharrell’s video 24 hours of HAPPY? Just when you thought you couldn’t get any happier, I love it! ;) http://24hoursofhappy.com/
“One of my weaknesses is the ability to choose grocery store lines.” My husband says this about picking lanes on the highway. Usually he gets behind the slowest person :)
