Tuesday Things.
1. I’ve wanted to do a kitchen tree for ten years and I finally made one! I’m obsessed. I had a few foodie ornaments but ordered a bunch last year the day after Christmas when they were half off. I’ve been waiting all year to bring them out!
2. Ooooh very into this southern panzanella salad.
3. In my ever continuing Instant Pot saga.. I made mashed potatoes the day before Thanksgiving to test them out. And thought they were terrible. This appliance is just not for me.
4. TV things! Who watched Dirty John? I watched it and liked it for the most part. Also! I started House of Cards (like one of my all time favorites) and ugh, I just am not getting into it. Hoping it will pick up soon!
5. Speaking on, the five best Christmas movies to watch with kids! I also have a list of my faves riiiight here.
6. Martha Stewart in an uber. It’s everything.
7. Perhaps one thing I’m most excited about for this season is getting alllll the holiday stuff at Trader Joe’s.
8. Loving the life changing gift ideas here.

Any Christmas movie list that does not include Die Hard is incomplete.
100% agree. It IS a Christmas movie. Just sayin’
“Die Hard is not a Christmas movie. It’s a god damn Bruce Willis movie.” – Bruce Willis, himself. #boom
BAHAHA
OMG have you tried mashed cauliflower in the instant pot though?? It’s amazing. And I also think that your butternut squash chili would be awesome in the IP!
We did a turkey breast in the IP for thanksgiving as well.. it was a miss.
and i think you’d love this: https://gardeninthekitchen.com/butternut-squash-farro-risotto/
i have not!!! i should try the cauliflower!
Have you watched Bodyguard on Netflix?? So good! We just finished it last night. I loved it too because it was only 6 episodes. Highly recommend it!
we did watch it!!! super good!
Question on Christmas trees with babies… We have a baby, Eloise, 2 weeks younger than Emilia and are debating what to do about our tree. We usually go for a real pine with all sorts of decor and lights, but with a 13 month-old, I can see that being a recipe for disaster! We’re considering doing a small table-top, but that just doesn’t feel as festive. How have your first few days been with the tree up? Should we just get a fake tree and only hang ornaments out of reach? I just don’t know…
PS – totally feel you on the IP… NOT my thing either
My sister put her tree in a small playpen last year (Summer’s Eve octagonal one) to prevent her little boys from getting into it (They were 22 months last Christmas)
We also put fencing up around the tree growing up because our dog LOVED to open presents. 😂. I still out more fragile items at the top of my tree just to avoid them being jostled by gifts, dogs and little visiting kids.
My neighbors put a fully decorated tree outside on their porch. But we’re also South Carolinians so not always the sanest members of the States.
oh man, okay so we have an artificial tree so i can’t speak to the shedding of the needles and stuff. emilia was totally fine with it until i added ornaments. now she stands at it and tries to bat at the ornaments like a cat, haha.
but! i honestly just keep pulling her away, trying to teach her to “gently” touch (mostly unsuccessful), things like that. im too in love with christmas to not do the tree or have a smaller one! my brother and SIL have a 16 month old and a dog, with a real tree. they put their nice ornaments up high and then just spend most of the time getting the babe and dog away from it. haha!
Re: the IP, oh no! I’m not sure how you normally prepare (or prefer) your mashed potatoes, but I used Pinch of Yum’s Instant Pot recipe and it was a hit. I both hand-mashed and hit them with an electric mixer, and added cream cheese, sour cream and chives. I made food and then had to transport it, so the IP’s “warm” setting was helpful.
i also hand mash and use a hand mixer! i just found the IP ones to be super mealy!
4.) yeah I unfortunately lost interest in House of Cards :(
ugh, right? so i finished last night, i got super into it the last few episodes but like… why did it still have to be all about frank? i thought we were done with him and it was supposed to be allllll about claire! so frustrating.
I love the kitchen tree idea. Please share a full shot of it!
i will do a post on it! xo
Where did you buy your kitchen tree ornaments? I HAVE TO DO THIS!
sur la table!! they will go on super sale right after christmas. i swear people charge the store to get them! https://www.surlatable.com/category/TCA-267162/Ornaments
I really enjoyed the Dirty John podcast and the first episode of the mini series
I did feel like the older daughter was a bit over the top- hard to feel like she’s sympathetic and that John himself is also.. unlikeable so what would she have seen in him? But having background from podcast I’m just going with it.
haven’t started HoC yet. it sounds like I don’t need to rush. sigh.
Martha in an Uber? made my life!
i felt the same way about dirty john!!! yes!
I made mashed potatoes in the IP this year and used the steam function (12mins) and kept the potatoes out of the water (with a few toes of garlic) with the rack. Then I took them out and mashed them with butter and cream cheese and they were fantastic. But I have had a couple IP fails so I understand the disappointment.
agree – the steam function on them works SO much better than the water one!!
martha in an uber was basically the funniest thing i have seen all month. my first thought, when i saw the photos, was: “…so martha rode in a normal person car” pahahahahaha #queenmartha
hahahaha I KNOW!!!
I got an Instapot two years ago and it is still in the box. Seems like so much trouble. I can take 20 min. to boil potatoes. My daughter has made ribs in her’s and they were delicious.
i hear you! it’s much easier for me to just make things the way i normally do than bring out another appliance!
Ummmmm….. I need this ornament!!! I make egg in a hole for my kids, all the time!!! Where did you get it? I’m sure it’s prob a family heirloom or from another country….
and Dirty John was good but she seems too desperate and trusting too soon. Maybe that’s the point? I love her oldest daughter:)
no!! i got it at sur la table. :)

they go on sale a little more during peak sale times (black friday, day after christmas), but this one usually sells out (i’ve wanted it for a few years and kept missing it!)! grab it now!!
Thank you so much! I’m nabbed one!!
I love the idea of a kitchen tree!! I always see those fancy glass food ornaments, and I fall in love with them every year. We already have SOOOO many ornaments for our tree, though, that I can’t justify buying even more. And, we already have some little cupcake ornaments, so ma food is represented. :-D But maybe having a separate tree for the kitchen is not a bad idea. :-)
yessss just get a little one! that’s what i did. :)
#2019goals :-D
I used to do a kitchen tree all the time and I loved it!
Your tree! I love it! I have a “treat tree”–all of the ornaments are cakes, donuts, ice cream. If you haven’t discover them yet, check out Old World Christmas ornaments. They have such a good selection of “food” ornaments and you can usually find them pretty cheap on Amazon. Love Sur La Table too! Merry Christmas!
If you loved Dirty John movie, you should listen to the Podcast….fascinating! Also Dr. Death podcast….what the what?????
Love this idea of kitchen tree. Kindly get some regular updates on this.
