September Favorites: Beauty.
It’s crazy that September is over!
Hello hello! It’s my favorite post of the month, where I get to ramble endlessly and unapologetically about all the beauty junk I’m loving. YES.
I’ve been so much more into skincare lately, but! By far my #1 favorite purchase of the month was the eye shadow palette down below. I LOVE IT. The colors are stunning and so creamy. It’s one of those palettes where I’m loving every.single.color and that’s rare.
In weird news, I’m not losing my mind over darker fall lipsticks and sort of keeping things more neutral, which is unheard of for me. I don’t know what’s going on! The darker shades kind of make me feel older? I don’t know.
Not too much new this month, but I’m loving what I’m using! As usual, you can find YEARS of my favorites right here.
5 Things I Loved in September
Marc Jacobs Eyeconic Steeletto Palette. Oh my gosh. I am in LOVE with this palette. Even though I had basically sworn off of eyeshadow palettes because I don’t need ANY!, I saw this on instagram and lost it over the colors. It’s so cool-toned and that’s my go-to. It’s what looks best on my eyes! So I got it and love it so much. It’s the only shadow/palette I’ve used all month. SO pretty. If you love purples and cool tones, get it!
Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Foundation. I know I know I know. I’m so not a foundation girl, and certainly not an airbrush foundation girl. Grabbed it because I needed (a lot) more coverage for some videos we shot and I applied it with the beauty blender. I wouldn’t wear it everyday because it’s too much makeup for me, but I absolutely LOVE how it makes my skin look if I happen to be wearing that much makeup. It’s really smooth and didn’t seem to break up, even after a full day. It’s definitely matte so I mixed the Hollywood Flawless filter with it along with some liquid highlighter. And then put highlighter on top. Like a freak. P.S. I’m also still using that Dr Jart Cicapair Calming Gel Cream under as a primer of sorts and it’s perfect. I also have mixed this with the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer I mentioned last month for less coverage and it’s great!
Ilia Color Haze Matte Pigment in Before Today. So I’ve only been using this on my lips, kind of like a your-lips-but-better color and just thrown on when I’m in a rush and need something, but don’t want something shiny. You know? I mean my #1 choice is always this Fresh Sugar Bloom color but this is great when I want something matte. I want to try more from this brand too.
Dr. Dennis Gross Ferulic + Retinol Brightening Solution. I sort of started using this by accident. I used the eye serum all last year (and loved it) and must have bought this too but misplaced it. I always say I won’t use retinol until I’m sure I’m done having kids (just because I don’t want to start/stop a skincare routine I love!), but the exception to that has been Luna Oil. Then Lacy started using a retinol and her skin looked amazing and I grabbed this thinking it was the eye serum and used it one night. I am OBSESSED. I have been using it two or three times a week at night and absolutely love it. My skin feels tighter (in a good way?!), brighter and smoother.
Tom Ford Noir Pour Femme. At the end of August I pretty much transitioned to fall perfume and this is my favorite. You know how much I love it? The sent that lingers on my clothes is incredible. Unlike most perfumes, I actually like how this smells on my skin hours AFTER I put it on. It’s such a warm, comforting cool-weather scent! Even though I’ve worn this for a few years, the last two winters I didn’t use it much because I was breastfeeding – and it’s a STRONG scent. So now I’m basically applying it every day and lovvvving it.
That’s a wrap on September! What have you been loving this month? As usual, I’ve been stalking some Christmas gift sets already. Also wondering if sephora will still do their normal VIB sale since they just did a surprise one! What will you grab?
xoxoxo

I have Celiac disease so I try to buy gluten free makeup and skincare to be safe. I’m also getting super aware and conscious of all of the parabens, chemicals and hormone disruptors in so much makeup…SO my point is, I’ve been using a lot of the Ilia stuff and I like it a lot! I have the foundation and mascara and have tried the eyeshadow and love it. Gotta buy the concealor next to replace mine that has terrible ingredients :-( SO MUCH WORK.
What I’m loving lately
– got a few new bite beauty amuse buche lipsticks in the recent sale. i still LOVE those.
– i haven’t transferred to a fall scent yet since its still 90 where i am but i still love soleil blanc. if there is a sephora sale i might pick up a jo malone tuberose scent i smelled while out of town that i liked. i think that will be my winter scent if i can get my paws on it
– i tried Amikas new purple shampoo for blond brassiness and i like it ! its PURPLE and i actually think it did something vs other brands where i feel like i dont see much results. i do not love the smell though
– i also got some new tarte blushes at the ulta 21 days sale and i forgot how much those are just the best. i got a tiny bit sparkly pink (i think Dazzled?) and really like it
thats about it for my loves recently. part of me wants there to be no sephora sale (the wallet part) but the “i promise i will only buy gifts part” does. lets be real “only buy gifts” means like 50/50 gifts/things for me. why is it so hard to resist ??????? i literally just typed i got 3 new blushes and they are the best…and i am side eyeing like some 70 dollar hourglass blush palette ? is it a sickness ?
I hear you on the skin care products!! I turned 40 in April, and for the last 3 years or so, I swear that my body has been telling me something (i.e., shop for stuff that’ll make your skin look great so you need minimal makeup). On my most recent trip to Sephora, I got the Belif moisturizing eye bomb and the Sunday Riley ICE (it smells so good)–loving both of em. Also still loving the Dr. Brandt DNA products and Dior One skin boosting serum. I buy my fair share of drug store stuff as well, most of which is discovered when I travel home to visit my parents and I root through my mom’s products…she helped me discover the Neutrogena Hydroboost and Olay moisturizer/sunscreens. I love the Olay complete daily defense all day moisturizer–SPF is high enough to protect skin, AND it’s a moisturizer. As an obsessive user of sunscreen (and it’s paid off–not only do I get carded at the ABC store all the time, but I actually do get questioned about the validity of my ID), I always appreciate a good combination product.
1. I LOVE Ilia products! Their color block lipsticks are amazing, and the cucumber water stick is the best eye depuffer.
2. You absolutely do not have to go without retinol! The ONLY reason there are any “warnings” about it are because ORAL retinoids can cause birth defects. Nothing topical could EVER do that. As long as you aren’t eating it, it is 100% safe. No one in the beauty industry discontinues retinol during pregnancy or BFing. I’ve used it through all my pregnancies and my (many) years of nursing with no problems at all. Don’t fear the retinol! :)
