Tuesday Things.
1. Someone please tell me how to take care of mums. We buy some every year and I swear they die within a week!
2. OMG this lasagna soup looks absolutely insane – just look at it. I might make it for dinner tonight!
3. I had to get a new phone a few weeks ago because I dropped mine in frosting while photographing a cake and the frosting caked inside the speaker so I couldn’t hear a thing. This is real life.
4. The 7 essential rules to meal prepping!
5. Last week we came home school and once I got the kids into the house, Jordan was still sitting in his car seat as I was getting everything out of the car. I noticed a ginormous grasshopper on HIS HEAD. Yes. I mean, you know, I’m so cool and calm around bugs, you can just imagine how well I held it together. I managed to fling it off and then put a cup over it in the middle of the kitchen floor until Eddie came home. Just like the adult that I am.
6. You can’t change your life until you change your life. THIS IS TOO GOOD!
7. TV things!! I started Clickbait… oh my gosh. I mean, I can’t stop watching! I couldn’t tear myself away from the first episode. Have you watched it? Also, I didn’t realize A Million Little Things came back. Ugh, I just thought the episode was so… meh. It was the best show before 2020 happened.
8. Loved this podcast on how to be organized.
9. Have you tried the Stok pumpkin creamed cold brew coffee?! I actually really like it as a treat!
10. Speaking of, I’m so glad my taste for coffee came back after I had Jordan! I wish I could be someone who drank multiple cups. I just love it so much – which is wild considering how much I used to loathe it. However, more than one cup makes my feel like a lunatic.

You may be a hard pass on this method BUT, once you have a cup over the insect, you just slide a piece of stiff paper underneath, lift cup and paper together, take it outside, and release it.
Thank you so much for sharing the grasshopper story. You made my day!
Clickbait was nuts! i binged it while food prepping. Also? Billions this week. finally i felt like we are back in a groove.
the grasshopper story! ha ha.. i love this story. i’m the person that deals with all insects in our family. sigh. I loathe it, but necessary evil – it doesn’t prevent me from doing a full on freak out any time one is ON me or basically anywhere in my vicinity and i always look super cool & collected i’m sure.
I feel as though the reason mums die in 7 minutes is because they’re so pot bound by the time they reach the consumer. Plus they force the blooms so people will buy them and think they can keep them for the season. One thing I do actually know though is that if you want to plant them as a perennial and keep them , you have to buy hearty mums. However, I also have had no luck doing this at all – just read it someplace. My solution has been to purchase really nice and kind of pricey fake ones…
Yes, you are correct about the hardy mums, although if we have a very cold or rainy winter then they may not survive. In the fall as I vacuum leaves, I will take the shredded leaves and pack them in and around the plants to help insulate them, but still not guaranteed. Mums tend to show new growth in spring much later than most other perennials (mid May in Columbus Oh) so you have to be patient. I personally prefer asters to mums, but you have to cut them back by 1/4 to 1/3 in July when they are in tight bud to delay blooming until September and October.
Also, buy mums at a nursery and not a hardware store and mums don’t like compacted or overly wet soils if you are planting them in your beds.
I am hoping my mums stay alive long enough to see them bloom! I just have to remember to water them.  Almost bought the stok pumpkin cold brew last week, glad it’s a tasty treat! Just watched an episode of ordinary joe and like the premise
YES!!!! CLICKBAIT!!!! Sooooooo good!!
But now we’re done and I need another show. lol
Here’s my TV thoughts: I’m worried that Gary on AMLT is going to implode and I don’t want to see it but I still can’t stop watching. Any sci-fi fans should check out Y: The Last Man on Hulu and then La Brea tonight. I thought Sting was great in his episode of Only Murders in the Building. And if you can believe it, I just read that they are going to run a 21st season of the flagship Law and Order but they didn’t have a solid premiere timeline. Has anybody watched Five Bedrooms?
Yes make the lasagne soup. It’s great and adaptable. I like it with turkey meatballs and sometimes I use homemade marinara I already have on hand. It’s so good. In fact I just made a batch for my 20 year old daughter for her Birthday. She asks for it every year,
I make the soup and lasagne noodles separate so she can eat them at her place .
Thank you for all your great content. I enjoy reading your blog.
As far a mums go, I don’t buy them until October, and I buy ones that haven’t bloomed or just have a few blooms. The larger plants do better. And keep them well watered!Â
Hilarious story about the grasshopper. I’m not sure I could have remained calm. And I wouldn’t have been able to slide a piece of stiff paper under it—no too risky. I found a very small snake in my basement a few days ago under some clothes on the floor so was picking up to wash. My scream was blood curdling. Luckily husband was home and came to my rescue.Â
You definitely need to repot the mums! I read that somewhere once, and it helps. I just got some and they were super pot bound, but they’re thriving in their new larger pots!Â
