Homemade Snickers Bars.
That’s what this is. Pure In.San.It.TEEEEE.
You know those days when you’re in desperate need of sugar and you’ve already downed more gummy vitamins than recommended while seriously considering how many more you can ingest without causing severe harm to your internal organs? They’re just so gooooood.
Well… in that case you should make some homemade snickers bars. Because I definitely did that.
And I KNOW you know what I’m talking about.
I spent the majority of my pre-pubescent and adolescent years scheming just how I would be able to steal my brothers’ Halloween candy. Snickers were always my favorite, and the boys weren’t huge fans so more often than not, they would hand them over. But sometimes… they kept them just to spite me. Brats.
Then I went through a SERIOUS phase of those Snickers ice cream bars. I swear they only had like 4 in a package or something but I could easily take down 2 for dessert. As kids, we were rarely allowed candy bars, but my mom had no issue with buying bags of fun-sized candy because, well… when things are fun-sized it means the calories don’t count.
And that you can eat a million of them.
These days, it’s rare that I crave actual candy, often preferring some chewy cookies or super rich cheesecake or a bar of amazing chocolate that costs thrice as much as the recent organic meyer lemons I purchased. But snickers are in my blood.
They are the peanut butter to my jelly.
The salt to my pepper.
The broccoli to my… wait, no.
This recipes comes from my friend Nikki who, well… I didn’t even know until Instagram and Twitter.
But now Nikki is like my bestest friend ever. Because when someone emails you a recipe for homemade snickers bars, they are your BFF for life. I mean, who else has my best interests at heart like that? I don’t even know.
And the fabulous part? This is SO EASY. So, so, so, so, so easy. Like, had-five-drinks-and-a-recent-breakup-easy. It has four distinct steps and in print seems slightly intimidating, but it isn’t whatsoever. I promise. I swear. I even had every single ingredient on hand. And not just because I’m a hoarder. Would I lie to you?
I’m not even going to waste your time trying to convince you to whip up a batch because, uhhh…. look at them. They are irresistible. Literally… considering they ruined two of my family members’ January diets.
Now that’s a win.

I appreciate you so much!
makes one 9×13 pan
bottom chocolate layer
1 1/4 cups milk chocolate chips
1/4 cup peanut butter
Thoroughly grease you baking pan. Melt ingredients together in a saucepan or microwave, then pour into the baking dish and spread until even. Let cool and harden completely.
nougat layer
1/4 cup unsalted butter
1 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup evaporated milk
1 1/2 cups marshmallow fluff
1/4 cup peanut butter
1 1/2 cup salted peanuts chopped, roughly chopped
1 tsp vanilla extract
Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add in sugar and milk, stirring until dissolved and bring to a boil. Let cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add in fluff, peanut butter and vanilla, stirring until smooth. Turn off heat and fold in peanuts, then pour over bottom chocolate layer. Let cool completely.
caramel layer
1 14-ounce bag of caramels
1/4 cup whipping cream
Combine ingredients in a saucepan over low heat. Let melt, stirring occasionally, until smooth – this took about 10 minutes for me. Pour over nougat layer and let cool completely.
Top chocolate layer
1 1/4 cups milk chocolate chips
1/4 cup peanut butter
Melt ingredients together in a saucepan or microwave, then pour over caramel and spread until even. Let cool and harden completely.
Refrigerate for at least one hour before serving, then cut as desired. These can stay at room temperature, but they do get gooey. I like them refrigerated best!
Note: for best results, buy one of the half-sheet aluminum cake pans at the grocery store. That way, you can pop the entire square out and cut from there!
I can’t even take that.

It makes me like you more to think that you just happen to have “on hand” salted peanuts, whipping cream, marshmallow fluff, AND a pound of caramels!

I came across your blog through pinterest. I just love the recipes you most. It’s like classics with a bit of a twist, but not a crazy twist. I can’t wait to follow your blog. Oh and these snickers look AMAZING!
Just found your blog and this recipe via Pinterest. Great blog and Good God these look incredible. Making them as soon as possible.

Will come back to write a proper comment once I stop DROOLING over these!!! Oh My God!!!! I love snickers and now you say you can make it at home! Trying these for sure! Thanks for shraing!
Knowing I can make snickers at home is a bad, bad thing…
Please, please stop doing this to me! These look so ridiculously amazing and I am supposed to be eating healthier not making HOMEMADE CANDY BARS! But maybe just for Valentine’s Day? That would be an exception that is justifiable, right?
These look amazing. I can’t wait to try them. Wait, can I just have some of yours?
I’ve been making these for years, don’t remember where I got the recipe. I love em!
One word… Brilliant. That is all.
Looks yummy.
I have been looking for recipes for our teen youth group to make for our Valentine’s Day project of goodie bags for all the widows and widowers at our church. I think I may have just found the perfect recipe, just the right amount of difficulty to keep them interested and yummy special treats for our recipients. YAY!!
You got me just by the title…I love snickers too. I love everything homemade. Imagine how ecstatic i must have felt upon seeing your post. I simply love this!
Wahahaha I’m in heaven here, isn’t it?

I have seen these ALL over pinterest- they look amazing!
HOLY.(CENSORED).
I shrieked for my son to come see these. He’s begging me to make them. You are evil. That’s what I love about you.
I’m doomed. Snickers are my favorite candy of life.
My pants got tighter just reading this recipe. Yum! I’m also a huge fan of snickers. And M+Ms. And Take 5s… hahaha.
These look fabulous! I really don’t want to make them though… I would eat them all!
I am another who found you through Pinterest and I’m not sure whether to love you or hate you for tempting me with this recipe. My only salvation is that we don’t get marshmallow fluff in Australia so I can’t make it.
Of course, I could always melt some marshmallows to create my own fluff …
You’re evil. But good. But evil.
Oh my god! Those look amazing! I think I just found my Sunday afternoon project with my daughter :-)
I had a really hard time with the nougat layer : ( it came out really grainy because the sugar just wouldn’t melt, and it wasn’t as white as yours is. I’m assuming because of the vanilla and peanut butter? Any tips?
Did you make any changes to the recipe? And did you cook it for the full 5 mins? Over heat for that long with stirring the sugar should definitely dissolve!
I did, I swear I cooked it for the full five minutes! The only change I made was I accidentally bought condensed milk instead of evaporated milk. Would that make a big difference? But I will say, I took these to work and my chefs loved them : )
my sugar melted… but the nougat wasn’t white white either.
I had a hard time with the nougat layer and actually ended up making it twice. Hope this helps!
-Melt butter over medium-low (4-5/10)
-Add in milk, and stir to mix
-Then add in sugar and stir, stir, stir!!!
-Once the mixture is nicely combined, slowly up the heat (6/10) until you see bubbles. Let it heat gently and bubble for a few minutes, stirring occasionally. If it boils violently, it will brown and harden like burned caramel.
-Add in the vanilla, stir
-Add in the fluff and stir until it’s about halfway combine
-Add in peanut butter and then turn off the heat and stir, stir, stir
I did these steps with my second nougat batch, and it turned out beautifully! Good luck!
Now to figure out the recipe for Peanutbutter Snickers
Whipping cream?? Like cool whip or like whipping cream you buy in a carton?
Whipping cream from the carton. Enjoy!
I am making these delicious-looking snickers bars right now, and if someone could answer me back pronto, that would be great! I want to know if when waiting for the chocolate to cool and harden completely, if I can put the dish in the fridge to speed up the process?
We actually put the whole tray in the freezer, and everything went well beyond expectations. Kinda sad, when I make cupcakes, brownies, cakes, etc… and the easy recipe gets the highest praise. Go figure!
thank you so much!!
The gummy vitamins paragraph… kills me. I have spent countless google sessions trying to figure out just HOW bad excess calcium (and before that vitamin D and before that Omega-3s…) could be…. after eating 3 “servings” of vitamins… in an hour. :) And, I will be making these snickers. In between vitamin binges.
Where in New Zealand would I get mallow fluff from? Thanks
I don’t know where you can get it in New Zealand, but here is a recipe for homemade fluff: http://www.bonappetit.com/recipes/2011/08/homemade-marshmallow-creme
Your photos makes me wanna lick the screen so badly!! I really love candy bars.especially with caramel and nougat…oh and chocolate….oh ya, and peanut. Okay, that’s snickers basically.
Anyway, what kind of chocolate as ingredients do you prefer? Can I use cheaper ones? does cadbury works?too milky?
just wanted you to know i’ve been thinking about this recipe all week and finally made it yesterday- and promptly did victory laps and high-fives in the kitchen after taste-testing them with friends. thanks for making me look awesome.
These look so good! Except that in real snickers the “nougat” filling is the hazelnut kind (like the nougat filling in ritter sport or godiva chocolates), not this kind that you made. It doesn’t matter because they look fantastic, but they’re not really snickers…
