Tuesday Things.
1. I think I’ve mentioned it at least 80 times, but you’ve gotta make these donuts. They are like the one thing I make multiple times per month. And that says a lot given my obsessive, short-attention spanned personality.
2. There is currently a ginormous spider building a fortress right outside my front door, which means I’m 1. refusing to use that entrance and 2. contacting real estate agents to put the house on the market. We even tried to kill the spider last night and it’s so big that it wouldn’t die! Can’t tell you how we tried though… you won’t be impressed.
3. A few weeks ago Kristen recommended Gone Girl and the second I read her post, I went out and bought the book and finished it in less than two days. Yes, this means I did nothing productive for two days and yes, also let a lot of important work slip by. But I love nothing more than getting lost in a book. And this totally was not my kind of book (can we say no beachy cliche romance (which um, I’m definitely currently writing myself at the moment)) either… but it was sooood good. When it ended I screamed. Literally.
4. I don’t think I’ve ever sold my obsession with peanut butter blossoms short. And now I can have one (okay… or like thirteen) giant one? Ugh. Don’t even know what to do with myself.
5. Oh and, soooo… do you know how I feel about brown butter? You have to by now. So you can imagine how I feel about this brown butter grilled BEER cheese. Stop it.
6. Totally obsessed with this celebrity question list and would love to add one for Rachel McAdams, asking 1. can we be best friends and 2. can you please just get back together with Ryan G in real life already? My world depends on it.
7. I obviously watched the Notebook a few days ago and my husband actually allowed me to watch it while a Steelers game AND a Nascar race were on, simultaneously. Maaaaaajor points. He must want something.
8. Uhh… how adorable is this? It’s me, it’s me! Alright, maybe I’m not so adorable when I sound like a brat. BUT… my BFF’s (aka face baby’s mom) aunt makes these art portraits (called apple cheeks… OMG) that tell a story and just check out the detail on here. There is even a pic of Mother Lovett in a frame back there, which is actually totally in my kitchen too. I like to think she is watching over me when really she is probably just rolling her eyes that I try to combine avocados with chocolate and blue cheese with dessert and that I even purchase bags of whole wheat flour.
P.S. I wish my legs were that long. P.P.S. don’t mind my scary reflection.
9. Waaaaay back when I was miserably job searching – which these days obviously means filling out a crappy form on the computer for 45 minutes, only to have the computer freeze or to accidentally hit the back button on your browser and lose everything – I spent countless hours waiting for companies to just OMG PLEASE CALL ME. I swore that if I could simply get in front of someone I could make a great impression, but it’s virtually impossible to get in front of someone when you’re one of ten kajillion applicants and oh – you’ve only been a personal trainer your entire life which basically requires no college degree. Because of this, I am dying over this list of reasons why you haven’t heard about that job yet. For sure made a bunch of those up in my head two years ago.
10. Not ready for summer to end but sort of ready to bust out the autumn colors. When oh when can I start wearing this color? It’s sitting on my counter BEGGING to be used.
11. Discovered a froyo place opened up relatively close to me… as opposed to 40+ minutes away like the rest are. Discovered this last Wednesday. Already been there twice. Life = over. Totally screwed.
12. Okay, I know my rants and raves about the 90s are incredibly annoying, but seriously… do you think I can just get over things like Hey Dude and playing capture the flag at dusk? Ummmmm no. And now, someone explains why I’m so hung up on it. I knew I wasn’t crazy.
13. And uh, speaking of the 90s and nail polish… THIS. Yes. That.
14. Still not really freaking out about turning 30, but actually freaking out that this means I should tone down my use of the word “like.” Do I like, really have to do that? Can we not make this happen?

“RYAN LOCHTE:
How about you stop talking and just look good?”
Yes, yes, a thousanddddd times yes.
Sorrynotsorry my only solution to bugs is to vacuum them. Although now I’m terrified of changing the vacuum bag in case… I don’t know they’ve somehow formed a colony in there despite the dust. Ew.
That portrait is gorgeous!
I vacuum them too, especially when I’m home alone. I also refuse to dump the vacuum bag – it’s my husband’s job. However this spider was outside and let’s just say that it involved a lighter.
I loved Gone Girl! And that custom print is amazing. Your friend is so thoughtful.
1. I TOTALLY watched the Notebook the other night when it was on tv… & thought the SAME thing – they need to be dating in real life. ugh.
2. There is a Froyo place opening up in my Publix plaza… problem is it’s literally a 60 second walk from my front door – bring on the fat pants!
That portrait is amazing! You have a very talented family. 30 is the new 20! Besides, you seem way ahead of the game, you’re doing what you love AND you’re doing an awesome job at it!
seriously, the supermarket one. I was so disappointed to find out that grocery shopping was nothing like Supermarket Sweep. and that it actually takes me at least an hour and a half because I never make a list, but always wander aimlessly around the store and remember what I needed from aisle 3 when I’m in aisle 12. and then forget what it was by the time I hit aisle 7.
the theme song to Salute Your Shorts is also constantly running through my head. constantly. it never leaves.
Supermarket Sweep was THE BEST!!! Also, remember American Gladiators? I’ve been mourning its cancellation for years now…
I am such a 90’s girl too! Just the other night I was watching the beach episode of Friends, totally reminiscing of when Bonnie was the one and only one Melodie! One of my favorite girl on tv, second only to Kelly Kepowski!
Those donuts look amazing. I have no attn span when it comes to desserts usually – there’s always something new to try, right! So for you to say you make them over and over, over years, that speaks volumes!
Spiders are very resilient. Their shell makes them nearly impervious to the best laid efforts. I learned wayyyy too much about them after moving into a house that had a big issue with them!
That’s it. I’m ordering a cupcake pan immediately!
Smallest world Michelle story is my aunt although from the other side as facebabys mom since I’ve never met her. She did my moms wedding invitation a few years ago! Our husbands are alike in that they watch terrible tv and have a love of meat!
it’s so nice to know i’m not the only one that thinks ryan and rachel need to be together. I was listening to Joy the Baker’s podcast and she is totally obsessed with Gone Girl too. it’s next on my list for sure!
I was doing just fine keeping the goodies out of sight and out of mind until I came to visit at How Sweet It Is. Now I want one of those donuts! With sprinkles? Oh my gosh!!
Omg. We need to discuss “Gone Girl.” Loved it. Still creeped out by it.
I *just* finished Gone Girl, and I literally threw the book across the room when I finished it. I LOVED it, but that ending? WTH?
Seriously pissed off. Right?
I felt the same way – I loved the book and literally devoured it in two days too but the ending?!?!
I think I’m the only person who hated the ending – Arg!
Oh no – I hated the ending too! Was so pissed.
exactly! so glad i’m not the only one. it felt like it needed 2 more pages – just one more twist, you know? dang, i wanted 2 more pages so badly.
I was so disappointed with the ending as well. I read it on our vacation and my husband chuckled because every time I came to the end of the chapters, I would let out a “OMG! OMG!”. The suspense was killing me and then it hit a brick wall!!
Adding those donuts to me “To Bake” list.
I’m totally with you on Rachel & Ry.Goss.
That list about why we love the 90s? So true. It all makes perfect sence!
Do you know how excited it makes me that you love those doughnuts??? SO EXCITED!!! Now, you should probably come make them look at all cute-like and photograph them for me…mmmmkay? That drawing is amazing..what a special piece of art to have!!
I think you’ve summed up a great deal of my life in this post…you know, bits and pieces. Happy Tuesday!
Guuuuuurrrrrlll all I’m gonna say is your husband must want something major if he let you watch The Notebook last Saturday night instead of having on NASCAR! XD
“RYAN LOCHTE: How about you stop talking and just look good?” omg for real. the rest are hilarious, but this one pretty much sums it up :)
How is it that i’m almost 6 years older than you and you remember Hey Dude?! Barely anybody remembers that. Hello, Christine Taylor is from my hometown!
I blew through Gone Girl in a couple of days too. Soooo good! I still can’t get over it. And yes, that art portrait is adorable!!
How great are these! I love the sprinkles.
i’ve already obsessively tweeted you this but you must, one hundred percent, like don’t even second guess my recommendation to immediately read everything else by gillian flynn. sharp objects and dark places. they will change your life.

I read Gone Girl this weekend and was seriously caught up in it. I was that terrible friend reading in the car while my other friends were talking. Literally reading every spare second I had. I went out this afternoon and got Flynn’s other two books… I’ve heard they are even better!
Job hunting SUCKS! I was doing it a few months back and felt the same way. Lame, non-functional forms and pools of hundreds of applicants. Eventually something came my way once I got an interview, but it was rough.
That nail polish….throwback to early 90’s and Saturday mornings.
Turning 30 is slightly depressing. I think I’m going to just tell people I’m 24 for as long as I can get away with it.
Name and location of Fro-Yo place, please! I saw one open up by bed bath and beyond in monroeville, but have had yet to try and and it’s still kind of a hike for me.
It’s in Miracle Mile! Sincerely Yogurt… they also have one in Sewickley and it’s my favorite of all the places around. It’s only about 15 mins for me soooo… I’m toast.
I feel ya on the froyo! Thanks for the book recommendation. That sounds good!
Loved Hey Dude!! That show was so awesome. I wanted to be like Melody. I think it’s funny that she’s now married to Ben Stiller.
OMG I love that painting of you!! It’s so perfect: butter, s’mores, shoes, cupcakes, and on and on…perfect! :D
I am so trying to not read any food blogs today since I am on a 2-day cleansing thingy (think pills, drinks, blech) but I couldn’t resist reading yours. Very happy that you only had a few food references!! :) Love your blog – hilarious!
Well, I thought about the whole “like” thing and that’s really hard to stop saying no matter how old we get. And my household actually looked very similar the other night when the Notebook was on, and all I could think about is how badly I wish they could be back together in real life (like my life depends on it).
Reading a crazy psychotic book is totally productive… right? Isn’t it? Please say it is so. So glad you loved the book. Now you’ll have to share with me others you like. I’m almost finished with The Island (not sure why it’s taking me so long to read it because I really do like it a lot) and I think I’m going to read The Midwife’s Confession or Dare Me… both I can’t wait to dive into.
And those doughnuts? Totally have to try those.
Also LOVE the painting! So much!
Brown butter beer cheese?! Sign me up!
OMG, I’m reading Gone Girl now and I can’t put the thing down. Work is getting in the way. I need to know why you screamed at the end!! (P.S. I’ve only been reading for two days too and I’m almost done).
First…SAVED BY THE BELL NAIL POLISH?! WHAT?
And second…clearly I need to trot off and get my hands on Gone Girl after all of this comment hype!
I want these donuts and now I don’t have to throw away the little colored beads candies my daughters convinced me to buy for some cupcakes last spring. Here I come Starbucks for the strong coffee and Gone Girl.
It will be my official 1st day with no kids tomorrow and I need to do something for myself other than getting the bathroom alone.
What about brown butter icing on top of them little golden babies! Thank you Jess.
1.) I really want that Saved By The Bell nail polish. 2.) The portrait of you is absolutely adorable. 3.) I have two fro yo places within a one block walk from my house so I feel your pain. I have to refrain myself from having fro yo for dinner EVERY night. It’s hard.
The next time we are together, can we sing the Hey Dude and Salute Your Shorts theme songs together? Because I know you know them : )
Hahaha! I watched HeyDude….I may have some episodes still on tape. I taped a lot of shows as a kid:/
Luuuuv these tues posts and luuuuv that portrait!!! PS turning 30 isnt all that bad, been there done that trust me? haha feels more awkward to say you’re 30 then it feels to be it esp if you still feel like you’re 24 like i do ;) PSS howwwwwwwww have you been okay w fro yo being that far away ohhhh myyyy id lose it haha sincerely, #addictedtocakebatterandtart (my FAVE flavors everrrrrrrrrrr)! so glad u found a place closeby. welcome friend. welcome.
Last summer I nearly walked face first into a PALM SIZED, BRIGHT ORANGE, WITH AN UPSIDE DOWN CROSS ON ITS BACK, spider coming out my back door.
I kid you not, my husband killed it AND burned it (because I too share your obsessive aversion to spiders) and we couldn’t find a body (which would have been MASSIVE). It showed up the next day on my neighbors back porch.
I am not lying, exaggerating or making any of this up. A straight up Satan spider almost killed me last summer.
Sell your house before it gets you.
Mwah. Love your Tuesday Things…almost as much as I love Saved By the Bell Nail Polish. I mean, seriously!?
Gone Girl is going on my Amazon wishlist immediately! thanks for the suggestion!
Love your “Tuesday Things”!! I too read “Gone Girl” and really liked it but was totally disappointed with the ending. I just finished reading “Butterfly” by Kathryn Harvey! Loved it and just about choked when I read the ending!! I ordered the second book since its a trilogy and can hardly wait to read it! Speaking of Ryan Gossling, he was born and raised in Cornwall, Ontario. His first cousin April, whom he grew up with is a good friend of mine!! She says that he does come to visit her when home which means that he drives right by my house!! The next time he’s home, she going to call me!!
Finished “Gone Girl” in two days on a trip to the beach. Generally, I can’t resist reading ahead to see how a book is going to end, but with this one I didn’t want to spoil it for myself. When it ended, I still wanted more of the story.
Also, there are probably six frozen yogurt places within a two block radius of my office. The amount of frozen yogurt I consume in a week is embarassing.
I am SO glad to see all of these other folks who were disappointed/frustrated with the end of Gone Girl! I just finished it a few days ago myself, and felt like it came to such a sudden end. You’re definitely left with questions and thinking “I want more!!”
I’ve been looking for a good book to read, so I went ahead and ordered it. Thanks for the recommendation!
I need the Saved by the Bell polish! Love your Tuesday Things, as always.
First, you have me hooked on Emily Giffin, so now I’m gonna NEED to read Gone Girl too. Sounds just splendid.
Second, I actually think I am presently raising a child of the 90’s in the form of my 6 yr old daughter. I recently showed her a picture of myself, deep in the 90’s … complete with side-pony, massive pink glasses, TWO t-shirts with sleeves rolled up, acid-washed jeans and ankle bracelet. SHE WAS IN AWE. No, I am not kidding.
What scary reflection? You’re hilarious!
