Tuesday Things.
1. The above is an embarrassing shot of my counter last night after a day of developing six recipes. No… none of those things went together. Like… none of them. Except for the beverage and straw…
2. And because of that I ran the dishwasher three times yesterday. THREE. Can I get a reward? Or at least a sticker? If not for running it, how about for unloading it? Only the worst chore in the history of life ever.
3. Some of you asked for my thoughts on Oz since I saw it last Tuesday night and I think… eh. Could take it or leave it. I actually found myself very antsy in the theater and feeling like I had to get out of there even though I didn’t have anything to do. And then I said later that it would be the kind of movie I’d rent On Demand and then fall asleep during. But it was cool too? Oh and my so-so thoughts may have something to do with the fact that they were only showing it in 3D and well, I’m too old for that. I felt sick and dizzy and like everything was blurry and the glasses are too big on my head and… and… wah. I like to complain.
4. Last week I made this for dinner and it was so delicious. Served over Trader Joe’s brown jasmine rice. What are you making for dinner tonight?
5. Just got the biggest giggle from these autocorrect texts that you never want to get from your parents. OMG.
6. I am the biggest cliche ever so I, of course, loved the Girls finale. I mean, loved. I’ve read a lot about the controversial thoughts/views and even though I agree with most… still loved it. Whomp whomp. Plus, do we think that was the moment that Lena Dunham really cut her hair? It had to be.
7. Oh and perhaps the BIGGEST thing? Um, my husband watched it with me. Yeah. This is a gigantic life move. I always watch it with my cousin but she was away. He must have felt too lazy to move off the couch earlier in the day when I had the Girls marathon on in the background, and then when it hit 9PM instead of going upstairs and sulking about such an awful show, he actually sat on the couch. He will tell you he just wasn’t ready to go to bed and still loathes it, but I secretly think he wanted to know what happened. Uh huh.
8. I still can’t do plain coffee without tons of cream and sugar and diabetes-inducing ingredients, but I really like the Starbucks hazelnut macchiato, iced. HAS to be iced. Except I like it until I get about two thirds of the way through and then it REALLY starts tasting like plain, bitter coffee. Then I want to throw up.
9. On my to-do list today, I literally wrote out “eat avocado toast.” It’s shockingly one of the only tasks I’ve accomplished so far.
10. Did you do anything fun for St Patrick’s Day? I did not. I threw up enough green beer during my college years to last, well… a lifetime. Real life. To celebrate being a responsible adult (don’t see #5), I am going to make one of these cocktails come 5PM.
11. OMGjustintimberlakealbumisouttodayomgomgomg!!! sorry.

I think I’m the only girl whose hormones didn’t go crazy when Adam ran to Hannah….I was like “maaaaan”! I liked him so much more without her. But I didn’t like her without him, so I guess I’ll have to compromise.
I’ve seen that “Dad is dead. You’re next. Love, Moth” text before and it makes me chuckle every time!
no i totally agree! i actually like him without her too, but then i watched the inside the episode with lena and liked what she had to say about it. my fave part was marnie+charlie though!
YES. “I want to have your little brown babies and watch you die.”
hahaha Im so psyched for the JT album! Can we still call him that?!
The “bangs” Lena cut were SO fake. Too shiny and bouncy to be real hair. I am going to DIEEEEEEEE waiting for Girls to start again. :(
You should definitely get an award for unloading the dishwasher… I HATE doing that.
And also SO EXCITED for the Justin Timberlake album today!!!
GIRLS, I have only seen the first couple of episodes… I think it’s time to change that.
Just had to share that I was watching Girls in bed last night on my laptop and my husband actually got OUT of bed to go grab his headphones so he didn’t have to hear it. Dudes seriously hate that show… which is funny b/c I find the characters pretty accurate most of the time.
I loved the facetime call between Adam & Hannah, Talk about pull on my heart strings! It made me wish he had more screen time this season!
My hubby watched GIRLS with me too. He commented when Adam started running towards Hannah – “Oh look, no shirt to run down the street??” If only he knew all of the shirtless Adam scenes he missed!
Auto-correct bloopers always crack me up!
I LOVED the Girls finale!! Did it make all of the characters seem a bit like damsels in distress who need a man to be happy? Yes. Did that ruin the show for me? Nope! I was really ready for someone to help Hannah off the crazy train (the ruptured ear drum was getting a bit too freaky for me).
Your “Tuesday Things” posts make my Tuesdays. You never fail to make me laugh.
And yes, emptying the dishwasher is the worst chore in history; followed by folding clothes in a close 2nd place.
…don’t forget putting away the clothes after they are folded! worst ever.
Ice coffee and coffee smoothies are my favorite over regular coffee for sure! I saw Jenna’s curry and I want to try it too!
Do you have a brand of curry paste you really like to use?
i’m not familiar with cooking with curry on my own at all – i just buy the thai kitchen brand at my local grocery store! don’t really know if it’s close to being authentic or not – i’m not educated on it enough!
Tonight…fish tacos with homemade salsa verde! Can you tell I am craving spring and warm weather?! PS: When the heck is Nashville coming back on? Tomorrow? I’ve had my hopes up now for almost 3 weeks, ugh.
I got engaged for St. Patrick’s Day! I think the reason he’s stayed around is because I constantly cook recipes off your blog :) in fact, I won his family over with the homemade snickers bars!
ahhh CONGRATS!
Every time I see your Tuesday Things posts I remember I have to watch GIRLS before I can read it. I cried shamelessly over Adam’s “Well, I was always here.” Can’t even.
I get Starbuck’s iced macchiatos upside down. It makes all the difference in the world! :)
whaaaat? do you just ask for it upside down? will they look at me like i’m insane?
Well, I usually go through the drive through so I cant account for any looks you may receive… but yes just ask for it upside down. A former starby worker told me that little trick, so all workers should know what it means!
They just make it backwards! :)
i only go through the drive thru too! i’m a lazy brat.
Former Starbucks employee chiming in here and ordering an upside down macchiato is a totally normal order! Macchiato’s are actually upside down lattes to begin with.
I love the Starbuck Hazelnuit Macchiato, but now I need to try it iced!! I took a trip to visit college friends for St. Patrick’s Day and we reminisced about how we used to be young and fun!
I love a good laugh, I will have to check out those autocorrects! Also after you instagramed the hazlenut machiatto, I was like craving one even though I had never had one, oops! I tried it and I love it! Also my recipes have recently not worked either, wahh. AND I totally agree with clearing the dishwasher, ugh the WORST.
Also, I found an avocado banana bread recipe that I think you would love, I haven’t made it yet, but will soon and will tell you when I hope to blog about it!
xoxo M
Are you going to Blissdom?
nope, i am not!
omg I’m SOSOSOSOOOOOOOOOO excited to walk my happy ass over to Target and get my copy of JT’s new album! ughhhhhhhhhh I DIE.
Oh, and how amazing did my salad look last night? I totally thought of you while I scarfed it down.
2 things:
Girls Finale — what the heck! All season everyone was spiraling down out of control and then all of a sudden, two unbelievable romantic things happen??
Hazlenut Macchiatto — try ordering it “upside down” so the syrup, milk, espresso all mixes together…then you won’t have a bitter end :-)
I love Girls but I find myself wishing Hannah would GET OFF THE SCREEN! She’s so annoying now. I find it odd that Lena Dunham wrote herself such an irritating character!! Loved Marnie and Charlie though :)
I’m loooving JT’s new song, I feel like I’m 9 again! A grown woman should not be lusting over a boy band member!
Ah I was planning on making that curry tonight! Glad you loved it – now I can’t wait!
hahaha that texting site is hilarious.
I’m making this!
http://funnyloveblog.com/2013/03/05/from-the-vault-mexican-skillet/
Seriously one of my favorite meals EVER to make. I’ve recently started cooking the chicken in really thin strips in butter or bacon fat so….there’s that. Also, I add queso fresco after the melting cheese is broiled. 2 cheeses and bacon fat!
It’s good, is what I mean.
I totally squealed while watching the Girls finale when Adam started running with the phone. Oh, so sweet. The whole thing with Hannah and her OCD the ear thing grossed me out last week so I am glad they redeemed themselves this week with that ending. And yay for Marnie and Charlie, and omg for Shosh!
I just read the comments about ordering upside down. Oh man, this like totally blew my mind.
I actually cried when Marnie and Charlie got back together. My two favorite characters. And the phone call that Hanna made to Jessa seemed so real to me- Like I’m pretty sure I have called my best friend who moved away and said similar things.
I may have gotten into a serious fight with my fiance last night after watching the Girls episode before our dinner date AFTER he called it the dumbest show and starting bashing it! So, I now know that there is no way I can get him to like it or even understand it or comprehend JUST a little bit! Loved Marnie and Charlie AND loved Shoshanna’s breakup monologue! “you hate pillows, and ribbons, and EVERYTHING!” :)
Today brings me back to NSYNC days. I feel like throwing on an NSYNC t-shirt and hitting up the local Target.
I loved the Girls finale too! Since they’re making us wait until 2014 for new episodes I’m glad it was wrapped up *somewhat* cleanly and cliffhanger-free. Shoshanna’s breakup speech to Ray killed me. I wish I could go back in time and say exactly what she said to about 5 different men.
Also, totally agree about unloading the dishwasher. That and unpacking suitcases are the WORST.
I feel like i should be embarassed that all day long I’ve come onto your blog and clicked “crumbs” waiting for you to post?
I’m ready for five new recipes!
Or 6.
When will you tell us how to make the delicious avocado toast? or is it really just smashed avocado on toast? Can’t be …. could it?!
yes that is seriously all it is! well, salt and pepper: http://www.howsweeteats.com/2012/06/why-yes-i-seriously-am-showing-you-how-to-mash-avocado-on-toast/
Oh and I actually went to Target on my lunch break today to get the JT cd. The checkout lady said “a big seller today” and I said i’ve been waiting my whole life for it. slightly dramatic, maybe.
And yesterday my friends and I bought our tickets to go see him in concert in Hershey (Since he’s not coming to PGH. lame.) yay!
The other day I had “shower” on my to-do list. #pathetic
Just bought JT’s album. OMG. Makes me want to drive around with the windows down and the volume too high.
Today I ate a bag of sour gummy worms. Yum. And ew.
That’s all :)
I hate unloading the dishwasher so much, I always make the deal with my boyfriend: he unloads the dishwasher and I clean the rest of the kitchen. And each and every time- an hour after his 5 minute chore while I am still cleaning- I wonder why I do this.
Just want to say that I love you a lot. Every bit of your brain and your writing and your life makes me smile.
Re: Girls – Shoshanna’s break-up speech was THE BEST.
And I randomly read somewhere that Lena’s hair was cut after the show filmed….her cutting her hair was a wig, and she re-did it with different wigs a few times.
I’m dying to try the Starbucks Hazelnut Macchiato!
So glad I’m not the only one with a countertop that sometimes looks like a tornado and that if you looked at the individual ingredients, none of them ‘go’ with the others – which is what happens when I have like 4 irons in the fire at once! And the DWasher being ran 3x..that’s some hardcore cooking!
I completely agree with #2..unloading the dishwasher is the worst. So glad I have a couple kids to do that chore now. :) I’ll leave my kitchen a disaster all day waiting for one to get home from school to empty it for me. Sad, I know.
Honestly, my counter looks that everyday! It is scary! I think I need to learn to work on one recipe at a time. Maybe more would turn out!
I read all those text and laughed my ass off! Glad I have not gotten the on about your dad dying! That would freak me out!
I wanted to see Oz after my husband raved about how good it was going to be for like 20 minutes straight. Now I am not so sure. Hate unloading the dishwasher. Loading is not so bad because it gets the mess out of sight.
I’m with you on Oz. There were some lovely visuals at times, but the movie felt long. At the end of it, I mostly just wanted to go back and watch The Wizard of Oz (and maybe appreciate it even more?)
Hate the dishwasher? Have kids!! It was literally the first thing I had my kids help with. They were maybe a year and a half and I had them unloading and piling things in the counter and I’d just toss the dishes in the cabinet. For some reason, it made things soooooo much easier! And then I had an extra excuse to make cookies and treats – to bribe the kids to unload te dishwasher. Win-win!
Hi Jessica – just came across your blog. Excellent job at being hilarious, it brightened a really stupid day! You are officially getting bookmarked. :-)
So, it could be worse…. What if you didn’t have a dishwasher? There is nothing worse than doing dishes by hand with a dirty smelly sponge. Yuck. By the way, I will join you in a squeal over Justin timberlake’s cd!!!!!
I used to love caramel macchiato but now I am totally all over iced hazelnut macchiato! Can you sense my excitement enough? :D
My boyfriend just powered through both seasons since Saturday night and loves Girls more than I do (and I never loved it to begin with, but do find it entertaining and yes, maybe a little interesting.) But having him watch it gives me someone to bounce thoughts and observations off of which usually leads me to liking the show/film/book more (like Life of Pi!) But, because I’m a huge romantic, I totally loved the season finale :)
Did I mention he watched all the episodes by himself?
After living 5+ years without a dishwasher, I have to say washing everything by hand in a sink full of nasty dishes is the worst chore ever…also, there is nothing wrong with avocado toast. Nothing at all…
Unloading the dishwasher is definitely NOT my favorite…that’s why I guess I have 3 boys and a hubby. Love this post of yours! And the pic!
Poor JT…his album was slaughtered in reviews. They likened it to songs that pre-schoolers would sing while doodling on the wall. Ouch!
I so agree with you on Oz. I think the sacrificed story for the 3-D parts.
Seems every week there is something weird that I so get. This week? Unloading the dishwasher. I don’t get why but I hate/dread/abhor that job. You know…all 5 minutes of it. What is up with that?
