Tuesday Things.
1. I secretly want a gigantic snowstorm. Don’t hate.
2. UH hello most adorable mini brie and jam pie edible gift. Really wish I would’ve seen this last week!
3. I am on a very weird italian sub kick. This is “very weird” because I have never cared for deli meat… like ever. In my life. All of a sudden a hot italian sub is ALL I want to eat. I took down two in a matter of 18 hours this past weekend. I’m basically making Eddie stop at DeLallo’s every day on his way home.
4. All I want to do at the moment is play board games all day. I don’t even know if we own a board game – well, we probably do but it’s still packed. Because four months later, that’s normal.
5. A few days ago I tried an eggnog latte ICED. It tasted like actual ice cream and I am now in a depression that I didn’t order it that way the last few months.
6. So all of my favorite TV shows are either over (major sad face) or on hiatus, and honestly this is killing me since I’m awake about 22 hours out of the day and planted on the couch the entire time. Eddie and I started to watch The Wire last week. I might rewatch House of Cards since it will be back on soon. Tell me, tell me! What should I watch? I really want the amazing/omg/totally sucked in feeling that I got from The West Wing two years ago and Sons of Anarchy last year. TV is liiiiife.
7. Speaking of, middle of the night TV is pretty atrocious, but I have come across some reruns of the Girls Next Door on E! from about 2 to 4 AM. OMG. It kills me. I really would rather read instead, but I try to feed Max in the dark… soooo do I break down and buy a kindle? UGH. Can they make one that smells like books? Seriously.
8. Many of you keep asking about baby updates – and there is a separate page for that! It doesn’t come through the RSS or email feed, but I’m posting on it once a week – just run your mouse over the “crumbs” tab.
9. Are you doing the whole resolution thing? I’m not, but I do hope to make another vision board this year. At the moment, it feels like I will get to that in 2017, but whatever. It’s perfect for a magazine hoarder like me.
10. See also: 4 ways to make 2015 better. I’m all about #4. LOVE ALL THE THINGS. You know I’m obsessed with, well, everything.
11. New Years Eve cocktail? What are you thinking? Give me something good. It’s like my first cocktail – back in the game.

Watch “The Blacklist”. I was hooked within the first episode. And “Parenthood” is my ALL TIME favorite TV show. Be prepared to laugh, cry, and get addicted.
If you have yet, I highly highly highly recommend “Friday Night Lights”. I have recommended it to quite a few people and no one has been disappointed yet. It’s about so much more than football.
A good friend of mine had a baby two days after you did. She’s been craving Jimmy John’s subs almost non-stop since she delivered. She says it’s because she didn’t eat any lunchmeat for the last nine months! (Perhaps other mothers will chime in as I cannot speak from personal experience.) Congrats on your adorable bundle!
Gilmore Girls! So much fun, so many seasons to watch. Enjoy!
I’m so sad…I just finished and I’m having withdrawals!!!
I read the entire Game of Thrones series while I was up nursing my oldest little guy. I do have a Kindle, but I found that the iPhone Kindle app worked best while nursing. The Kindle was too awkward to hold easily. I didn’t watch TV because I was hoping that the lack of stimulation would lull the baby back to sleep. Good luck!
I hate snow. Hate it. But I secretly want one too. Just so I don’t have to work for a few more days. Those days off from work during Christmas spoiled me!
I am not doing a resolution, but I am determined to be more focused on certain things. And I want to travel more this coming year.
Have you ever watched The Good Wife? I don’t think it’s on Netflix, but it is on Hulu and maybe Amazon Prime. Wildly addictive – I went through five seasons in a couple of months.
We are making a pomegranate punch for New Year’s Eve! It’s 2 bottles of champagne, pomegranate juice, aaaaand a decent amount of rum. :) Plus Meyer lemons and pomegranate seeds. I am so. excited.
Some TV recs (because TV and I are besties) – Gilmore Girls, Parks and Rec, Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, Mindy Project ( this seems like a very YOU show!), Marry Me, and….I have so many more but I don’t want to overwhelm you! These should be a good starting point!!
I secretly want a gigantic snowstorm too!!! Luckily, today when I arrived to Germany (I spent Christmas in Spain with my family) it was all white and beautiful! What a nice welcome :) About TV I recommend you watching True Detective, or Hannibal, both great series and quite short (1 and 2 seasons) what means you can get to see them all in a couple of weeks :P
Parenthood. Not cheesy like I thought.
WHITE COLLAR!! Love. It.
Orange is the New Black!!!!
I recently totally got sucked into The United States of Tara…I think it’s on Netflix and Amazon Prime. Toni Colette is totally awesome in it. I also totally binged The Big Love on Amazon Prime. I LOVED it. Oh, and I totally recommend Parenthood if you don’t watch that yet. It’s BREAKING MY EVER-LOVIN’ HEART that they are almost done with the final season. There’s only a few episodes left and I want to cry :( They have all of the past seasons on Netflix.
I just realized I said “totally” like totally too much lol. I’m not as big of an air-head as one might think while reading that…lol. :)
Umm I am totally hooked on Scandal. I didn’t want to get sucked in but it’s worth the hype. I’ve binge watched the first 3 seasons on Netflix. SO GOOD..
The bachelor starts on Monday! A definite guilty pleasure but the new guy seems genuine!
We just recently binge watched Wentworth on Netflix. Really good show. Dark, but good!
I just started watching the wire last week too! I am in the middle of season 2 already. it’s so good! You should listen to the podcast Serial if you haven’t. It ties in nicely with the Wire.
I just watched the entire first season of Broadchurch (only 8 episodes, easy!) on Netflix in about a day. It is spooky and intense, reminds me of a british version of The Killing. Also, I found out yesterday that a new season begins in a week, so woohoo! Though a show about a murdered child may be terrible.
p.s. you baby is impossibly cute and I hope you never stop posting a thousand pictures of him.
Have you tried listening to the Serial podcast? Totally sucks you in and you don’t need any light for it! I’m not generally someone who likes to listen to something (I’m a visual person so I prefer reading) but I really like it. :) I see someone else recommended it too so I second that!
Thirding Serial!
I am desperate mode to find a show to binge watch, although not as desperate as you though! When I asked on Twitter Broadchurch was brought up several times. Might give it a try!
I *think* you do watch this–but if you haven’t watched The Walking Dead…do it! I am totally obsessed and unfortunately just finished all the episodes (until February when they are back on).
Also, Newsroom?
New Year’s Eve drinks at our house will be the Moscow Mule and Dark and Stormy- we picked up the alcohol and ginger beer yesterday. We’ve never had them before so hopefully it’s good!
I also want a giant snowstorm. I FINALLY have all the appropriate gear for my kids so they aren’t cold outside, and it’s been so warm they’ve hardly even worn their hats, never mind their snow gear.
In those early #zombiemom days I swore I read more books and watched more tv than in the previous entire year lol. Have fun finding some new shows to watch! I’m currently obsessed with the old seasons of Flipping Out.
For a fun cocktail – I really love champagne with a hibiscus flower and some of the flower syrup from the jar. It is so so pretty and such a light and fun cocktail. I’m going to make myself one with gingerale this year since I”m pregs and the smell of real alcohol is not working out for me. Here are the flowers if you don’t know what I’m talking about: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003ZTN5F0/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B003ZTN5F0&linkCode=as2&tag=rhodtest-20&linkId=P25XDZFFV3B5DYIZ
and crap that’s totally an amazon affiliate link- sorry about that and feel free to correct! I copied from an old email :)
Hannibal or The Black List … so good!
Have you seen Downton Abbey? I watched 3 series when I was pregnant, just before series 4 came out!!
If you’re into mysteries at all, I’d SO recommend watching The Fall and Broadchurch. They’re both short season (6-8 episodes) British TV series and, seriously, they are so well done.
You need to watch The Good Wife because it just keeps getting better! The character development on this series is amazing (as is the acting), the story lines are engaging (and realistic!) and the filming is so cinematic (thanks, Ridley Scott!). You also need to watch Broadchurch. This 8 episode British series (season 2 on is on the way…) is dark, intense and addictive. On another British note, you should watch Sherlock. Benedict Cumberbatch is such a treat to watch. And, with each episode being 1.5 hours, it’s like watching a movie!
Ugh, I have wanted deli meat for my entire pregnancy. I know I can heat it up and have it in a panini, but I don’t want it grilled! We’re 10 weeks out from my due date, and Dan already has very specific instructions on what sandwich to bring me in the hospital after delivery…
I am very not secretly hoping for a major snowstorm. I can’t believe we don’t have snow in PA! I want to go snowboarding!!! It’s winter!
It’s not a long show, but if you have an HBO membership you should watch Doll & Em. It’s only 6 30 minute episodes but it’s really funny. It’s with Emily Mortimer (Newsroom) who basically plays herself and her best friend who becomes her assistant and it’s this hilarious look at how ridiculous Hollywood and how important female friendships are. I loved it.
Girl!! The Wire is SO good…like one of the best shows on television ever. Like maybe you shouldn’t watch it yet because now all Matt does is bitch to me about how no show will EVER be as good as the Wire and now he just complains about all the shows. We binge watched the Sopranos already and Revenge (we are now current and so we are bored already because who can wait a week seriously?). I’ve binge watched so much stuff I could go on for hours but really loving Criminal Minds right now because it’s like CSI but more interesting and Saul from Homeland is on it (he’s like the main dude…at least for right now). I binged on House and we binged on LOST while studying for the Bar Exam (and passed, so that’s probably a sign).
As far as cocktails go… you already saw the Champagne Sangria, but today I posted a Kir Royale Sherbet and let me tell you girl, that ish was off the chain. I still lean more towards the Chocolate Martini Gelato (because obviously…chocolate and gelato? SOLD) but all of these should be on my NYE to-do list (but they can’t be because hello I have to squeeze into a wedding dress in 3 months). UGH. But if you can eat/drink them and want to go for it, they’re up on my blog (I think they are 3 out of the 4 most recent lol…I clearly have a problem)
I need to try an iced eggnog latte STAT (except I don’t because, see above, I have to fit into said wedding dress…UGH why is life so hard?!) and also I need to get up to date on all of the Max goodness because I’ve put it off because I know I will have a total sob-fest (as we discussed on twitter) and Matt will be like wtf is wrong with you? And also those edible gifts are amazing and wish I knew about them when I was spending a bunch of money I don’t have on Xmas gifts…oh well there’s always next year!
Oh and don’t bother getting a kindle, just keep posting fabulous stuff and I’ll keep posting NOVEL-LENGTH comments on your blog…how about that? ;) Or get a Kindle because supposedly they are awesome…I use an iPad but I still prefer a regular book…but I also don’t have a precious Max to feed in the dark :)
Mindy Project & Orange is the New Black! I also highly recommend the Serial podcast! It was my first venture into podcasts and it’s seriously addicting. And I second the Kindle App if you want to to e-read without making the commitment to an actual e-reader. :-)
If you haven’t watched The Good Wife, I highly recommend!!! The earlier seasons are on Amazon Prime and I totally binge watched it when my now 5-month old was a newborn.
My kids are your age and we are all big TV fans. Some have been mentioned already like Friday Night Lights, Parenthood & Gilmore Girls. They also recommend Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Freaks and Geeks, Veronica Mars, the Wonder Years & Battlestar Galactica. So much great TV. Have fun with your precious little one!
I am so with you for a huge snow storm! Last year my little guy was almost a month old and we had a huge snow storm here. It was the perfect excuse to stay cuddled up with a new baby. I get it.
Oo! I’m trying to decide between drink options too – I’m thinking some kind of margarita or mojito topped with champagne. The question is which kind: blackberry, strawberry, grapefruit, blood orange or ginger!
I love how much you love TV! Me too.. TV is life. I’m sad because all my shows just ended which included Survivor(awesome ending), The Amazing Race (worst ending), Masterchef Junior..
In Jan/Feb they ALL start again PLUS my fav fav’s like Big Brother and The Bachelor. I am the absolute worst lol. Until then I’ve got nothing. I’ve been re-watching my fav cheesy movies like Look Who’s Talking (1, 2 and 3 ;) ). For show-shows I watch Mindy Project, 2 Broke Girls, Parenthood… that’s about it. So I’m here reading comments for TV show tips. The last ‘real’ show I got into was Breaking Bad so long ago and it was amazing.. but I haven’t found anything since!
Also an Italian sub sounds delicious. I used to love meatball subs from an Italian deli near my Mom’s.. oh so good!
Make one of these cocktails with homemade grenadine. We’re making the salty saint Nicholas for new years with gin it’s lemon juice, grenadine, gun and fresh grapefruit juice http://www.thekitchn.com/-holiday-guest-8-163492
Have you given Lost a try? One of the most addictive and binge-worthy shows around. Also….Luther, Parks & Rec, The Killing, and I kind of hate to admit this but The Vampire Diaries…my guilty pleasure!
YES to number 1. I do too!!! It just doesn’t feel like the holidays (post holidays) without the white stuff.
I had a major italian sub kick after my son was born! I think it was because I couldnt eat them when I was pregnant.
So many good TV suggestions, but I have to echo Gilmore Girls. It’s so fabulously kooky and wonderful! For something darker, The Blacklist is INSANE. My husband and I LOVE it.
Boardwalk Empire, Deadwood, Arrested Development, Twin Peaks ftw!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Wire starts off kind of slow but gets really good! Have you seen Fringe and/or Battlestar Galactica? Those are two of my favorites. And The Good Wife, which is good although it sometimes annoys me.
All over the tv recommendations, I should be a professional binge-watcher (I really wish that was a thing).
Not sure how you feel about period pieces, but as I adored The Wire, West Wing and SoA as well, these are some other series I have enjoyed.
Dramas:
-The Tudors (I’m a Henry VIII dork and was able to overlook the historical inaccuracies- not so with Reign- do not watch Reign!)
-The Borgias
-Game of Thrones
-Spartacus (hilariously over-the-top, also the gladiators always have their shirts off. Um, hi.)
-True Blood
-GREY’S ANATOMY! You can binge watch 10 seasons right now! Also Scandal.
-Law and Order SVU
-Mad Men
-Breaking Bad
Humor: Parks and Recreation, The Office, 30 Rock
PS Your son is adorable and you are the best.
Marry Me, Parenthood, The Goldbergs…there are really too many to list!!
I know others have already said it, but I will go ahead and second (or third) Friday Night Lights. Even if it’s the second time watching. Coach Eric Taylor and his wife Tami literally helped me survive my first month of motherhood. Also, I would like to give a giant shout out to Netflix for iPhone. Truly made the 1 am to 5 am breastfeeding shift bearable. Because your baby is adorable and amazing, but some of us are just not wired to see 3 am with any sort of regularity.
Nice kicks lady!!!
