Tuesday Things.
1. I secretly want a gigantic snowstorm. Don’t hate.
2. UH hello most adorable mini brie and jam pie edible gift. Really wish I would’ve seen this last week!
3. I am on a very weird italian sub kick. This is “very weird” because I have never cared for deli meat… like ever. In my life. All of a sudden a hot italian sub is ALL I want to eat. I took down two in a matter of 18 hours this past weekend. I’m basically making Eddie stop at DeLallo’s every day on his way home.
4. All I want to do at the moment is play board games all day. I don’t even know if we own a board game – well, we probably do but it’s still packed. Because four months later, that’s normal.
5. A few days ago I tried an eggnog latte ICED. It tasted like actual ice cream and I am now in a depression that I didn’t order it that way the last few months.
6. So all of my favorite TV shows are either over (major sad face) or on hiatus, and honestly this is killing me since I’m awake about 22 hours out of the day and planted on the couch the entire time. Eddie and I started to watch The Wire last week. I might rewatch House of Cards since it will be back on soon. Tell me, tell me! What should I watch? I really want the amazing/omg/totally sucked in feeling that I got from The West Wing two years ago and Sons of Anarchy last year. TV is liiiiife.
7. Speaking of, middle of the night TV is pretty atrocious, but I have come across some reruns of the Girls Next Door on E! from about 2 to 4 AM. OMG. It kills me. I really would rather read instead, but I try to feed Max in the dark… soooo do I break down and buy a kindle? UGH. Can they make one that smells like books? Seriously.
8. Many of you keep asking about baby updates – and there is a separate page for that! It doesn’t come through the RSS or email feed, but I’m posting on it once a week – just run your mouse over the “crumbs” tab.
9. Are you doing the whole resolution thing? I’m not, but I do hope to make another vision board this year. At the moment, it feels like I will get to that in 2017, but whatever. It’s perfect for a magazine hoarder like me.
10. See also: 4 ways to make 2015 better. I’m all about #4. LOVE ALL THE THINGS. You know I’m obsessed with, well, everything.
11. New Years Eve cocktail? What are you thinking? Give me something good. It’s like my first cocktail – back in the game.

Sherlock
All amazing!!
SCANDAL. I started over Christmas break and I can’t stop! Kerry Washington’s clothes are too dieeeee.
YES!!!
The Good Wife. Best show ever.
Totally agree! I was going to comment with this one too. There’s a bunch of buzzfeed articles about it saying how it’s the best show and all that…which made me marathon it the last couple months and I have loved it! It’s free w/ Prime so you can’t beat that!
Just read through the crumbs posts – love it! So sweet. Where are you getting these adorable baby blankets??
I love the baby posts. I hope you keep reminding us they are over there since they don’t pop up with the normal feed.
You need to try the Italian toasted sub at Penn Station!! Life changing!!!
1. Me too! I want a snow day!!
3. I have a recipe for baked italian sandwiches at home…. http://ramblingsmalltowngirl.com/2014/02/08/baked-italian-sandwiches/
4. Might I recommend Settlers of Katan. Wildly addicting!
6. The Tudors, Dexter, Walking Dead, Game of Thrones.
7. Get a kindle!! You will never go back! I love love love mine!!
9. Mine is to get engaged :)

I’m not so secretly hoping for a major snowstorm. No harm in 5 or 20 inches, right? Maybe it can wait until the NYE craziness is over – but a big New Years Day snowstorm sounds pretty wonderful. If it has to be cold, I think we all deserve piles of beautiful snow!
I am loving living vicariously through your baby posts! My daughter is 18 months old and I so miss those newborn days, although I didn’t appreciate it as much at the time! Also, I just made the BBQ chicken chili from your cookbook, and it was delish! Although I will say, in the picture, I thought the peppers were bacon, then read the recipe and realized it wasn’t bacon… But added crispy bacon to it anyway! Soooo good! Definitely recommend that mistake ;-)
It has moments of being a little, well, graphic – but my husband and I just binge watched The Honorable Woman. It’s on Netflix – very very very good story. I recommend.

As long as you sugar your champagne flute rings you are good to go in my book! http://www.jackiefo.com/2014/12/new-years-eve-diy-how-to-sugar-your.html
Just started with Suits – but was also thinking about re-watching House of Cards (at least Season 2!) for the Feb re-start. Also all the seasons of Friends will be on Netflix in Canada soon so I’ll be rewatching the whooooooole thing!
Show recommendation: Peaky Blinders on Netflix!
I agree! Peaky Blinders is an amazing show!!!
Doc Martin on Netflix. Hilarious.
Jessica,
Congrats on your sweet baby Max. I got your cookbook for my birthday with a Barnes and Noble gift card, only thing I wanted was your book!!! Made me a even bigger fan, of How Sweet, you are too great!!
Please watch True Detective, only one season with 8 1 hour episodes. The first three kind of drag along, but oh man, episode four is amazing, it only sucks you in from there! We watched the whole thing in one day. Woody Harrelson & Matthew McConaughey are amazing. Can’t wait to see what they do with Season 2 with a new group of actors and a new case. Also, if you like true crime/cold cases kind of shows Cold Justice on TNT is coming back on Jan 9 for the third season, it’s a great show. The whole cast is great.
Oh, I forgot to mention Tyrant on FX, I’m waiting for season two to come back this summer. Not sure where the past episodes are for sure, but if you can find them it’s a suck you in kind of show made for binge watching. The women’s outfits and scenery are beautiful, it is filmed on location in Israel and Turkey.
I LOOOOOVE Cold Justice! I’m so excited that it’ll be back on soon!
yes yes yes to number 10!!! I’m alll about that life!
I too was super depressed because my shoes were on hiatus, and then I started Scandal on Netflix and my life was changed. Seriously it’s so so so so good. I don’t know how I actually peel myself away from it.
ahh i totally missed the baby posts! so so cute. :)
xo, cheyenne
Happy New Year, Jessica! This is a delicious cocktail (bourbon, grapefruit juice, St. Germain, mint, grapefruit bitters) that can be easily made in a smaller batch. I am making it for our celebration tonight in a big punch bowl, but tried it out last night for my hubby and myself. It is so yummy!

Cheers,

I suggest Dexter (unless you’re sensitive to blood), Californication (unless a lot of on screen sex makes you uncomfortable) or Weeds (unless you are a stickler on drugs, even though it’s not a true story). Also, Parks and Rec is HILARIOUS!
Also a fun and non-traditional board game is The Logo Game. Super fun, and you can play it with as little as 2 people. They have a kid and adult version, I’ve only played adult but me and my BF love it, as well as his family since the questions range in topics and difficulty.
Happy New Year!
Wow…that Brie recipe just may be made for NYE!
If you haven’t already, watch Lilyhammer. 4 seasons of hilarity and I am presuming you already have NetFlix as you watch House of Cards :)
As a former luddite, I was not amused when hub gifted me with a Kindle 5 years ago. It died on our yearly trip to the Keys and I was LOST. Happily, he gave me the new one for Christmas with the backlight – best thing ever.
Happy New Year, Jess!
Do you watch Parenthood? I’ve been hooked on it through Netflix the last few weeks and now I’m so sad that it’s in its last season! Great show. I cry almost every episode.
Cocktail: a couple months ago we were in SC for a football game and at brunch I had a Salty Dog made with Grapefruit soda instead of just juice. It was phenomenal!!! This past weekend I picked up some grapefruit soda as well as some peach soda (both made by Izzy) and last night mixed the peach soda with bourbon. HOLY YUM! I’m sure you could find some way to make it even better, but it was great and different.
Congrats on baby Max!! He is adorable :)
Highly recommend The Wire! It’s a little slow to start out in season 1, but you must persist through it. It’s SO GOOD! And still so relevant today. Do ittttt :)
Wow, I love that brie and jam pie, too! So cute! I’m having a quiet NYE, so I might have to make some of that! Happy New Year!
Parenthood is a great show, so underrated!!! I’m so sad there are only 4 episodes left. It’s on Netflix and you should totally add it to your TV line up.
Really pumped that you guys just started The Wire–per EVERYONE’S urging, I did too. I highly encourage you to post thoughts/updates here as you would with other (ahem, current) shows so we can share in the analysis! Happy New Year!
Yes, get a Kindle! They don’t have the book smell yet, but they did invent a paperwhite one so you can see it without a lamp. I wasn’t sure I’d like one either, but now I can never go back. They’re so small and easy to haul around, the pages don’t flip closed, and you always have something to read. Nothing worse than finishing your book ten minutes into the gym and then having to be bored on the treadmill until the end of time. Our County library has built up quite a good selection of eBooks, too, so I can still check out library stuff instead of buying. So, the short answer is: yes, do it.
Also, your baby is honest to god beautiful with those big eyes and all that hair. Well done.
Try “BoJack Horseman” (the netflix series). It’s animated, but it’s definitely for adults and it’s amazing. Plus, there’s a character who is a golden retriever! Trust me. My husband and I polished it off in about 2 nights around Christmas.
What is it with Italian subs? I told Joe I think that’s what I want my first meal to be post-baby. Whyyyyyy?? So weird and random! Totally jealous that you live so close to Delallo’s!
HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER! You have a bit of time before the new episodes start up again! SOO GOOD.
And Pretty Little Liars.
Congratulations on the arrival of Max! He’s beautiful! Enjoy all the adventures!
As a new mom myself, I found that Netflix has been a huge help with night time feedings and no sleep. I use Apple TV for fun shows and movies.
The ham and cheese sliders in Hawaiian sweet rolls is a great lunch meat snack! Recipes are on pinterest. Happy New Year!
Ever watched The Newsroom? All the Aaron Sorkin-y goodness of West Wing just in a different setting. I had never seen it before, but started a binge this week and am totally sucked in…
I have always been anti-kindle because I love the feel of books but after we had our youngest last year my hubby bought me the most basic kindle with a little clip on light. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! It is perfect for nursing!
Recently started watching Modern Family. The dads are hysterical!
Friday.Night.Lights.
Happy New Year!!!
xo
OMG, YES! FNL totally, unexpectedly sucked me in. Could not stop watching it. I love Tim Riggins forever!!
I don’t remember you talking about it before, but I totally just binge-watched all of breaking bad on netflix. Also? True Detective. on HBO. Matthew McConaughey & Woody Harrelson.
I’m not a commenter. Ever. But I have to. Watch prison break. It’s on netflix. There are about 5? Seasons. It’s definitely omg, suck you in. We have very similar taste in TV
Newsroom
Good Wife
Nashville
Have you ever watched The Mentalist? Patrick Jane is probably one of the best characters ever (kind of like a crime-fighting House…maybe? You should also totally watch House) and the rest of his team are fantastic too. Its a gripping story, but also hilarious. You should watch it if you haven’t already!
The Killing was AMAZING! On Netflix. You’ll watch it fast. I’ve already rewatched it because I was so sad it was over. I also binged throug The Good Wife, which was good. But The Killing you’ll like and it will go fast.
I always thought of myself as a print book ONLY person, but recently got a kindle and I love it. I love having access to books anywhere and have mostly been browsing my library’s collection. It’s so light and easy to use. I would recommend the paperwhite as opposed to one of the fancier ones-i really like that mine looks more like a book and less like a computer.
My #1 favorite show is Revenge on ABC. And just finished Marco Polo on Netflix. :)
I was out bedridden this past week and re-watched the entire Felicity series in five days. It was amazing and totally immersive. I had the DVDs (nostalgia!) but they’re all on Hulu…!
An Honorable Woman on Netflix – 8 shows – Maggie Gyllenhaal – watched it in 2 days -Excellent plot!
THE WIRE!!!!! YES YES YES. Give it a little time, but this show will suck you in and you will love it!!!! There are college classes at Ivy league schools about this show! Keep the faith in it!!!
The Wire takes some time to get into but gets good. Except the last season is crap. We just finished binge watching Marco Polo, which I really liked. Manhattan was soooo good. Best new show on TV last year. And Game of Thrones. Really.
Have you watched Veronica Mars before?? I think they are all on Amazon or Netflix, an awesome series and after I saw the movie, went back and rewatched them all!! My husband is hooked as well :)
I accidentally posted this on your baby blog. Sorry. If you need something new to watch (and you’ll have to watch the first 5 episodes on On Demand) watch State of Affairs. It’s on NBC, Monday nights at 10:00 EST. The 6th episode is on tonight. It’s a GREAT show. Kind of like a Scandal…….only it’s CIA.
AHHHH yes, The Wire!! I live in Baltimore and have avoided watching it for years (didn’t want to be too afraid of my own city), but I caved this year and I’m sooo glad I did. It is one of the best shows ever made. The story is amazing. The acting is incredible (best child actors I have ever seen). And living in Baltimore, I can tell you that they do a great job capturing the city.
The second season is really slow and I almost stopped watching, but if you push through, it is so worth it! As someone else suggested, I would love it if you keep watching and post updates about it!
If you’re still looking for a new show, I recommend Luther. It’s streaming on Netflix, so it’s super easy to access, and totally addicting. Sadly, not terribly long. You could easily tear through it in a weekend. Prepare to be totally in love with Idris Elba.
