Sweet and Spicy Roasted Cauliflower.
Okay, if you make one thing this week… let it be sweet and spicy cauliflower!
YOU GUYS. It’s crispy. And crunchy. It’s sweet. And spicy. It’s baked! Yes baked. All in the oven. No frying. Comes out full of delicious, crisp texture and is drizzled with a sticky sauce.
Dreams. This is the cauliflower of dreams.
SO.
Remember a few weeks (months?!) ago when I said I kept making a million cauliflower recipes? This was one of them!
And it’s freaking DELISH.
Seriously, I can’t think of one person who wouldn’t want to eat this cauliflower. It’s such a treat!
I can’t even believe how crispy this gets on the outside with being baked. And the sauce… oh my gosh. Well. We could drink it with a spoon.
It’s pretty easy too and requires no deep frying. You have to cut up a head of cauliflower, and whisk together some eggs and breadcrumbs, but that’s about it. I don’t disagree that dipping in egg and crumbs can be slightly high maintenance for a weeknight meal. It can! Obviously depends on the day – but try it when you have time. After the dipping, everything goes into the oven and that’s it. You’re free.
(Also P.S.! It reheats fairly well. I mean, it’s not the best – but it definitely still tastes good when reheated.)
This is one of those things that is so delicious that I could eat it alone for dinner. Like just give me the entire baking sheet. A fork. A large glass of water (and wine). I don’t even have a ton of words to say in this post because it’s such a fabulous meal that you’ve gotta make.
I beg of you!
Plus, a million explanation points.
Sweet and Spicy Cauliflower
Ingredients
- 1 head of cauliflower cut into florets
- 2 large eggs
- 3/4 cup seasoned bread crumbs
- 1/3 cup panko bread crumbs
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- olive oil for spritzing it's best to have a spray version here!
- 4 green onions thinly sliced
sweet and spicy sauce
- 4 tablespoons honey
- 3 tablespoons chili garlic sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon minced garlic
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Place a wire rack on a baking sheet (this helps everything stay crispy) and spray it with nonstick spray.
- In one bowl, lightly beat the eggs. In a second bowl, stir together the bread crumbs and flour. Take each piece of cauliflower and dip it in the egg, then dip it in the bread crumbs mixture, coating it completely. Place it on the wire rack and repeat with the other florets. Once the florets are all breaded, spray them with the olive oil. This will help the outsides brown!
- Roast the cauliflower for 25 to 30 minutes, or until it's golden and crunch.
- While the cauliflower is roasting, make the sauce. Heat the honey, chili garlic sauce, sugar, soy sauce, ginger and garlic in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk to combine. Cook until the mixture bubbles and let it simmer for a minute or two. Remove it from the heat and let it cool. It will thicken as it cools!
- Remove the cauliflower from the over and drizzle it with the sauce. You can also use the sauce as a dip if you don't want to coat the cauliflower completely. Sprinkle the whole thing with green onions and serve!

I wish cauliflower didn’t give my baby gas pains whenever I eat it :( because I love cauliflower and this looks amazing! Saving for later, when I can eat cauliflower again!

Do you think frozen cauliflower could be used?
Stopping by to say hello and tell you I’m really enjoying your cookbook!
absolutely lovely, and the reviews on amazon are stellar, deservingly so…
Is chili garlic sauce “sriracha” or something else?
I used this stuff:

You can usually find it in the Asian section of your supermarket

I made this last night with a few friends, it was so good!!! Everyone loved it! We coated all of the cauliflower with the sauce and didn’t have any left over for dipping, but it was okay because we had Trader Joes Sweet Chili Sauce! Perfect for dipping these guys in!! Thanks for the recipe. Definitely making this again and this time I’m not sharing with anyone haha
Made this for dinner last night, LOVED it. The sauce was a little spicy for the toddler but mixed in with other veggies and some rice it was perfect easy dinner.
This is on my meal plan for next week, what should I serve it with?? I usually do cauli rice for dishes like this but that seems a little redundant lol
We made it with just a big platter of salad on the side – kind of like serving chicken wings with salad ;D
This sounds amazing!

Holy Hannah this sauce was HOT! And I am someone who can normally handle the heat. Very tasty though!
I always hate recipes that require a breading because I find even if I follow the recipe, I always end up having to make extra breading. THANK YOU FOR USING ENOUGH OF EACH INGREDIENT TO MAKE SUFFICIENT BREADING!!! I had enough to coat all of my cauliflower plus a bit left over.
The cauliflower crisped up nice. I actually liked the taste of it a bit better once it cooled down to room temp. I’d love to try a buffalo and blue cheese version like a commenter above mentioned!
This recipe is so satisfying! I paired it with the mushroom fried rice on the blog and it was a hit, even for my meat loving husband.
Made this tonight for dinner. Very nice. ser ed it wirh some brown basmati rice and an egg. WIll def be making it again.

Really disappointed with this one. Cauliflower was really bland and sauce tasted overly spicy to me. Other recipes I’ve made from How Sweet Eats have been quite good.
Omg this is soooooo good!!! I have made it twice so far and the cold leftovers are like my treat for the next day :D I like it more with lots of sauce and my husband with not so much sauce because he loves the taste of cauliflower in general and me not so much. My stepson was also very into it. Will make it many times more!
I made this last night and it was spectacular. I was worried there wouldn’t be enough sauce to coat all of the cauliflower, but that wasn’t an issue at all. My husband started with a plate then ended up eating it right off the tray. He said “I would pay some serious money for this, this is amazing”.
Absolutely delicious!! My boyfriend immediately said this was his new favorite way to eat cauliflower and I have to agree. Your recipes never disappoint!! Thanks for this awesome new addition to our faves.

Made this for dinner last night – really tasty. The sauce was the best part, I think. My sauce was a little more spicy than sweet, as I only had about 3 Tbsp of honey left. Oh well, still yummy. The cauliflower didn’t get as crunchy as I had envisioned, but it definitely was not soggy. And all the prep took way less time than I thought it would. Thanks Jessica!
I absolutely LOVED this recipe! Used it as filling for lettuce wraps with some sauteed bell peppers. I used Momofuku Ssam Sauce (available at Whole Foods) for the chili garlic sauce and it gave just enough bite.
Loved this recipe! Served it with a simple roasted chicken (Thomas Keller recipe) and it was an amazing meal. Used gluten free breadcrumbs and roasted the cauliflower at 450 degrees along with the chicken.
I didn’t have panko bread crumbs, only seasoned. Also, I couldn’t spray with oil, so I just dabbed with a brush. Aaaaand, I used bottled sweet chili sauce because I was lazy. They were still delicious and I can’t wait til I can get to a grocery store and make the full recipe. It’s going into rotation, for sure!
I made this and it was delicious! Thank you for the recipe.
Always looking for cauliflower recipes – loved this one! I only had panko so I seasoned it with oregano, paprika, chilli, salt and pepper. Unfortunately I missed that the sauce required garlic chili. So I made a yoghurt siracha sauce instead. Love it!
It sweet , crunchy and absolutely delicious. Such a great way to serve cauliflower…especially to those who don’t really like it. Total winner!

It took my oven way longer to cook (almost 50 minutes). But they turned out great! I would probably use less honey next time (little too sweet for me) and more soy sauce! Really tasty :)
I baked the cauliflower the full 30 minutes and it came out great – crispy and golden brown. I followed the sauce recipe but if you like your food mild, I recommend adding the chili garlic sauce to taste. Would make this again but definitely a weekend meal when I have more time.

We’ve made this twice; once as written (though realized I didn’t have chili garlic sauce so tried to substitute with sombal olek which was quite spicy) and we liked it this way though we had soo much leftover sauce. Then we made these and put them in a bowl with some buffalo sauce, stirred/tossed to coat them fully, then served with bleu cheese dressing on the side to dip. YUM!!! They were great as leftover too this way (having been already coated in sauce). Not crispy anymore, but still great flavor. Will make again!
Any suggestions to lessen the heat/spiciness?
Thank you ❤️
Absolutely a must. This recipe is so delicious and flavorful.
Although this was tasty, it was way too spicy for my family. I might try this again with less chili sauce.
