Summer Fridays, Vol 2.
I’m so glad you are all as thrilled about Summer Fridays coming back as I am! I can’t get enough. Let me know how you’re doing in the comments below!
EATING
It’s Father’s Day weekend and I’m ready to cook up a storm. I’m debating between these steak and potato skewers or these baby back ribs with root beer BBQ sauce. Or these smoky BBQ blood orange ribs! Also probably going to add this cool ranch kale salad into the mix.
DRINKING
This fresh cherry vodka soda. It’s SO ridiculously good. I’m also in major s’mores mode though, so maybe these smoky s’mores root beer floats?
MAKING
A taco bar for Father’s Day too!? I think it definitely it should happen.
BAKING
I’m still freaking over strawberries and this weekend’s treat will most likely be this fresh strawberry cobbler!
CRAVING
My lavender vanilla latte ice cream. Nothing beats homemade ice cream and I can’t stop thinking about this one. I envision a lot of lavender recipes in the next week or so. P.S. I buy my culinary lavender right here.
LISTENING
To our playlist for Father’s Day! Hoping it’s Eddie approved. Ha! I also lovvvved Brene Brown’s podcast last week with Austin Channing Brown. This episode is gold.
READING
I am almost finished with The Vanishing Half! It is so good. Next up – I’m starting Elin’s newest, 28 Summers. Can’t wait! Reminder that you can find my full summer 2020 reading list right here. What are you reading right now?
WEARING
Another dress and yes, another black dress even though it comes in a million colors. I am loving this sleeveless dress as much as the one I shared last week. I seriously am living in these dresses right now! They are basically the summer version of leggings, if leggings are too hot. Just super simple and comfortable.
WATCHING
I usually save our random TV discussions for Tuesday Things, but who is watching Selling Sunset?! I’ve also been rewatching the last season of Yellowstone since it starts this weekend.
SHARING
If you have some time on your hands and a craving for comfort food, I’m sharing a new video of my french onion chicken lasagna roll ups. This meal is indulgent and ridiculously delish.
LOVING
My apple watch pride band! You may have seen it in my instagram stories but I am obsessed! I’ve always wanted the rainbow band but it was only available in fabric and I’m doing dishes, like, 24/7, and didn’t want it to always be wet. This one is a sport band and it is perfection.
WRITING
Out some goals for the rest of 2020 and revisiting the ones I made in late 2019, before we shut down. Everything looks different now and I’m finding it so easy to slip into bad habits since so much has changed. This weekend I’m going to make a solid (yet manageable, in the current pandemic!) list of what I’d like to the rest of the year to look like.
CELEBRATING
We will be celebrating Father’s Day later this weekend with our families, but today is Juneteenth, the celebration of slavery ending in the US. I encourage you to sign this petition here to have Juneteenth recognized as a national day of observance. It only takes a a minute!

I just finished reading “In Five Years” and loved it so much. I’ve been obsessively telling everyone to read it. I just started on “Big Summer” by Jennifer Weiner!
I should comment this on your beauty favorites post – BUT my latest summer beauty find is Maelle lip crayon in Nectar – it is perfect! I added it on to my Ipsy and now I think I’ll need to buy it when I run out!
ahhh i liked in five years a lot too!!
omg i need to find that!
SO excited that Summer Friday’s are back. Is Eddie back into tacos again? I need to get some farm stand strawberries ASAP, your right, they truly are the best. Those root beer floats sound like the perfect fire pit drink. I think chili is on our menu this weekend. It’s my husband’s new fav.
pretty sure eddie is still over tacos… whomp whomp.
Love the joy and light you’ve held throughout this time–so refreshing and uplifting to read, thank you Jessica!
Love your summer Fridays posts! I vote for ribs – they scream summer and are pretty hands off. Can’t wait to try your cherry drink now that I stocked up on fresh cherries at TJs!
I really love this kind of diary! Definitely have to start this type on my page if you don’t mind!! xD
Just finished Summer Darlings yesterday and I’ve started The Mothers.
Happy Summer!
I live in dresses in the summer, leggings in the winter. I discovered cute maxi dresses that ACTUALLY fit me on Amazon, and I ordered a bunch of them this summer and last. They are just on repeat all summer long. I feel girly and pretty and fabulous and, most importantly, cool. As in temperature-wise, not…social standing, haha. I’ve never been “cool” regarding the latter, hahaha.
petition signed thank you !
would love if you share how you are changing up your goals. advice on how to let go of what 2020 could have been/what you wanted it to be and set new goals would be great.
my reading is sooo bad because my main reading was audio books in the car :( my podcast listening is up though and ive been listening to old eps of dax sheppard and i love it!
