2020 Recipe Disasters.
Annnd I’m back with alllll of the recipe disasters in this disastrous year! As usual, it’s my annual recipe disasters day!
Obviously 2020 has been a doozy in a multitude of ways!
Like most of you, I probably cooked more this year than I EVER have, and that’s saying something since it’s cooking is pretty much my job.
If you’re new around here, I’ve shared my recipe disasters every year after Christmas for nearly a decade. While I had MANY more disasters than this, these ones took the cake.
Literally! I mean… not even sure what that one up there was supposed to be.
This beer cheese soup fell very flat and did not impress these sourdough pretzels. It was weirdly gross.
A million times trying to make ramen mac and cheese work. Spoiler alert: it didn’t.
I made these asparagus tempura bowls and they were actually good but I mean, look at that asparagus. Looks like worms or something!
This baked cauliflower is a take on a restaurant dish and good in theory, but I couldn’t figure out how to make the recipe work. Plus, could it BE any less appetizing!?
These were snickers stuffed cookie bars that totally did not work. AT ALL.
Really great job at making my garlic butter naan!
OH the sourdough fails. SO MANY sourdough fails. I still haven’t made one good loaf. In my defense, I haven’t tried since the summer. But my starter is still going strong!
Most of my loaves came out completely flat. Whomp whomp.
Burning all the things. So many things.
We tried to make grilled bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers. What a disaster. The bacon wouldn’t cook, the filling melted out – it was quite the mess. They smelled amazing though.
And this broccoli gratin was as dry as dry could be. Boring, dry and nothing special at all.
My saddest fail was this year’s christmas cake! I just couldn’t get one to work. This attempt at chocolate cake with white chocolate frosting – it was bad. The frosting was basically cement. The coconut looked terrible. The topping!! I mean what was I doing? I think my kids could put this together better than I could. Whomp whomp. 2020 does it again!

Yes!!!! This is my favorite post of the year. Thank you for sharing the fails and keeping it real! Happy Holidays!
I feel like I just read 2019 fails.
This year just flew by✈.
Let’ hear it for 2021!
The first thing that I thought when I saw the first picture was that it looks like a slug on top of the soup! :) Especially funny because your food photos are out of this world gorgeous!
Thanks for sharing! It’s a good laugh to see some fails, and also interesting for me to see that someone who cooks for a living has an occasional strikeout!
That coconut cake looks great!!! I’d definitely not call that a fail! It sounds amazing!!
OMG!! That soup with the huge pretzel! I won’t say out loud what it reminds me of but my gosh – you couldn’t have gotten it more accurate if you tried. I’m getting hot and bothered just looking at it. 🤣
Loved this! I’m new here but totally looking forward to trying some of the recipes.
Do I believe that i could compete with these? Probably, but you already know what most would look like.
Truly enjoy repeating your successes though. Thank you and praying for a much better 2021 for everyone.
Those expensive pine nuts….
Feel ya!
This might be my favorite post you do! Thanks for keeping it real!
Love this post every year!! The coconut cake still looks pretty great to me :) yayyy for 2021!
Love this post every year! So excited for you and your family with the new babe coming. Can’t wait to see what recipes you come up with for 2021!
Much too hard on yourself.
For the grilled poppers, pre-bake the bacon a bit before wrapping them. Â Fill the poppers, chill them a bit, wrap them with partially cooked-still pliable bacon. Start cheese down then flip to finish.
Adds a few steps, but should work out. Â
Thanks for sharing the fails. They brought laughter.
It is nice to know that we all are I. The same boat some days
Girl that cake looked cute! It was the best picture on this post 😄
Hi there! Prepare the bacon wrapped jalapeños with cream cheese cook the bacon a little before you wrap them. Also you need to wrap the entire jalapeños with bacon that way none of the cream cheese falls outs. And use toothpicks to secure the bacon. My advice might not be needed but I always appreciate it when people give me advice especially when it comes to cooking. :)
